I think it's a bit rice, but not the worst thing in the world. Some people like red or neon green wheels, others like titanium blue exhaust tips. Just colors on otherwise functional pieces.

I had mudflaps back when I lived a half mile up a dirt road. People were really weird about them. Once I was driving and someone on the sidewalk yelled "you don't need mudflaps". It's because nowadays 'car culture' is all about appeasing the masses to get the most instagram likes, so everyone thinks their opinion is important.

Back on topic: Aren't a lot of "ti-tips" on steel exhausts actually just steel tips with some sort of color treatment added?

I think it was clear that my statement was a personal opinion, and not a fact that needed to be disputed, or an ultracrepidarian statement. I'm not sure where the statement about being authentic came from, as I too would never base a purchase on ego, but rather the quality, and reputation of the company - which you can find in companies that make replicas as well. There are also companies like ROTA that "base" a wheel design off of another, yet are a reputable company, and in that regard I wouldn't consider them as the sort of replica product I was referring to - in that regard the RPF1, etc would likely be considered a replica wheel design.

You don't need to justify the rationale behind your purchase decisions; if you're making a conscious, informed, and weighed decision than I think you're doing it right, and clearly not the type of person I was referring to.

I also agree about the mudflap statement - where I live it rains a lot, and they shower the roads with gravel in the winter. Those were my first purchase after getting the car to protect it from all of that spray, and road debris; I also don't see how anyone could justifiably bash them - if nothing else, they're preventing debris from being tossed up at the car(s) behind you.

You don't eat rice with soy sauce. You can use it to make fried rice, but just using it in just rice is plain disgusting.

They all do the same thing... you just pay more for looks, the name, or both.

You could spend a lifetime re-iterating that statement to forum-dwellers... and they will still continue to get offended every time they see something they don't like

@chas3wba0 that is exactly why I normally just stay in off topic and classified sections on forums. I buy what I need and read random stuff to kill time at work!

I have been saying this since 1997 on forums/mailing lists.

The key is that this issue is a mentality shared by Americans, the need to have approval of peers... No one gives a shit about this in Japan, hence the outrageous car culture and the imitators here in the US.

Love it when I see a picture of some absolutely insane build from Japanland. Mostly Boso vans come to mind. Everyone loses their collective mind and is so quick to hate on it.

This is like asking if rice or nice on fwd vs rwd vs awd.

I got the ARK grip burnt-tip. As long it doesn't sound like rice cannon I could careless about what it looked like. Typically, a nice looking muffler will most likely sound good.
