Nice or Rice: Burnt Titanium Tips

1 Attachment(s)
Just wanted to do a quick poll, I saw somewhere I'm not entirely sure if it was this site but I saw a comment about the Blue/ Burnt Titanium tips being "Rice" and I can see where they're coming from. I mean it's mostly cosmetic and doesn't play an actualy role besides looks. It's a newish fad that I'm seeing on more and more cars nowadays.

What do you think?
Nice?
or Rice?

My understanding of "Rice" meanings;

i personally like the burnt exhaus tips

but IMO i dont think it should add value to the part, why pay an extra 200-300 dollars for it?

It's all a matter of taste. I've had 2 exhausts with titanium tips, one was actually a full Ti exhaust, so in my opinion, it can't be rice if it's truly Ti. One exhaust with blue/gold tips, which looked awesome. And now, my tips are SS.

Honestly, I prefer the clean look of the SS, but it does look a bit plain compared to burnt tips. It's all a matter of opinion and if you like it, who cares if someone says it's rice.

I couldn't agree with it more. Paying 200-300 more for it sounds outrageous.

Nice.
I've seen some spray painted exhaust tips. I would call that rice but a TI tip with burn end looks nice

I have burnt tips and I'm so glad I chose to pay the extra money. It definitely gives it that extra look. Would not go back to getting normal tips lol

Right up there with mudflaps, one of the stupidest mods ever.

However, if we are talking a full titanium system, which has discolored due to temps, then I am on board....along with a rally car, having mudflaps. Otherwise, it is just horrid looking, especially on our cars, one of the slower vehicles on the road.

Polished or even coated black is classy and makes sense.

I love my "burnt tip" on my Tomei 60S - between the blue, purple, and golden hues I think it's gorgeous, but my exhaust is also full titanium which is what I always understood the purpose of that being - to show that the exhaust is titanium.

I don't (personally) think it's tasteful to dye a non-titanium exhaust tip to try to mimic real titanium, or even put titanium exhaust covers on - especially if it's adding to the price for an exhaust that isn't real titanium.

I view it the same as replica wheels - I'm not going to bash on someone if they like the style and are trying to save money, but (to me) it'll always leave something to be desired about the quality, and tastefulness of the build, and the assumption that the owner is a "quantity over quality" type of person.

That being said, I think that (cosmetically) a burnt tip still can look good on certain cars (Ultramarine, and Firestorm look great with some blue in the exhaust), so when it is done well, and if it's an awesome exhaust system (but not necessarily titanium), I think it can be pulled off - after all it still helps draw attention to the exhaust being modified, or aftermarket. To each their own

How so? Some of us do drive our cars on dirt roads or roads that get flooded and have mud from time to time.

Yeah I'm not paying 3 grand for wheels that don't come in the size I want in order to be authentic. Rota SS10s come in Slate Blue and 18x8.5.

It depends on the color of the car but i personally like the burnt tips. It complements the blue hue on my silver ignition frs.

IMO if you have a full TI system and with the heat it turns blue then sureits okay. However if you buy it just for the look then it is rice, or if theyburn the tip for the look, I think its rice. Want some soy sauce to go with allthat rice?

MisterSheep 07-29-2015 03:02 PM

It seems pretty close so far.
Rice- 14
Nice- 19

Was going to touch on that, however, didn't find it worthwhile.

I've been very on the fence about what wheels to get for next summer. Looked at Rays, Volk, Work, Advan, etc; and for the price, you do get very nice wheels, BUT, I couldn't find them in the size and offset I wanted. But guess who offers very similar styles with the size and offset I want? Companies such as XXR, Rota etc. I don't give a shit about having replica wheels, I won't try and pass them off as the real deal, and I also have an issue with paying 3-5K USD, then getting raped by shipping, customs and currency conversion for a set of custom wheels that are 1/5th the price of the car. I'll buy a set of reps for around 1k, and have more money for fun stuff that makes me go faster.
