From my experience I have to run 10w50 in my Turbo Busa when factory was 10w40. It was 10w50 because the oil passing through the turbo. Lighter oil warmed up faster and thinned out. I really wish we had someone make something that could show the oils properties while running not just oil temp and pressure.I live in south Florida and it seems like were always at 76-106f

hi guys,
just some quick update. manage to open up my engine, and the rod bearings, crankshaft and crankshaft bearings seems to be out of commission. definitely oil starvation of some sort. most probably due multiple things happening at the same time; new oil cooler, new oil brand/weight... etc. I think this problem is not limited to FI engines right? cause I saw similar problems with NA in other threads. since I bought the car used, I don't have any warranty, so i'll either replace the parts or do and engine swap. currently getting price quotations. |

This is true, wrist pin came out on mine on the dyno back when I had the turbo setup and "BOOM" fire with a nice windowed block.

So far I'm at 5k miles boosted. Avo kit, straight 2.5" pipes, k&n filter, radium dual catch cans, retuned by ATS in Denton Tx, and just recently installed an avo oil cooler.. So far no blown motor. I use to be naive and knew nothing about warm up time and use to just get in the car and drive on the base avo map on regular 0w20 Toyota oil without an oil cooler in Texas weather to. Only thing that failed on me were the motor mounts, innovated wideband (doesn't really count), and my dipstick o ring which I tore after messing with it :P
I now wait till the oil temps reach at least 60-70c before stepping on the gas a little harder.. I pray every time I get in that car to make sure it doesn't fail on me lol. Thanks Jesus Sent from my LG-D850 using Tapatalk |

That's really strange, sounds more like a oil line issue or something.

No, the car made a sputter type sound sort of what sounds like spark blowout during a WOT pull almost at redline on the dyno. I figured the car was fine as it was still running and no abnormal engine sounds. We made anther WOT pull and poof, giant flame and a huge hole in the block. Once I got the engine apart for analysis the wrist pin was what appeared to have let go.

change the oil before storage, dumped it when I had the pan welded for the turbo return, cleaned the pan 3 times and ran oil in it for 30-45 seconds and dumped it, fresh oil again for the shake down/fluid check and got 3km on it before it started knocking. The car has only ran Amsoil signature series since 1000km break in and changed ever 4000-4500km since new. It sucks, but I'm over that, time to look into building it |
