This is probably a stupid question, but here it goes anyway. I haven't tuned a car since my talon that used a palm pilot for logging.

I'm still having trouble with my boost control. They sent me a new map and specifically mentioned this is an abnormal tune to see if they could get the boost down. Before it was spiking to 13psi or so before I let off. With this new tune I'm hitting 10psi on the "wastegate spring" tune which is 7psi. So it's still a little high. I know everything is 100% hooked up correctly.

It's a well known company so I know they know what they are doing. My tune is for the jdl base kit. Do you think my gtx upgrade might make a difference? That's the only thing that I can think off that's not normal. I'm all out of ideas.

Lets take a sample scenario.
5.8PSI wastegate spring, 6" hose to MANIFOLD will net ~ 6PSI
5.8PSI wastegate spring 18" hose to MANIFOLD will net ~ 6.5PSI
5.9PSI wastegate spring through 24" house to MANIFOLD and through a solenoid that reduces the flow even further (hose flexes, and bends reduce flow) ~7PSI.

These are made up numbers but realistic expectations.

Your hose diameter, flex abillity, length, and where the boost reference is coming from will make a difference. I used MANIFOLD as an example as the manifold is the end of where your boost is, and where you read your boost. If you hooked up the gate to the turbo then you will be making around the boost level if not lower due to the wastage regulating the pressure at the housing not at the manifold (further down the pipeline!)

To verify this logic unplug the harness from your boost controller and see what pressure you get as "wastegate" only. This would mimmic the map being filled with 0's. If your solenoid is plumbed correctly then the wastegate will get constant pressure from the pressure source when disconnected.

I wonder if this is possibly the issue i'm having, seeing as I swapped the EBCS lines and i'm still overboosting (not as bad though). I just don't see how my lines could be any longer than those who are already using a JDL kit and an EBCS - theres only so far you can go with the EBCS connected into the stock purge valve solenoid connector and the wastegate sits in the same spot as every other kit. I am using AN fittings with 4an line though, 1/4 line which I believe is the same output as what the stock barb fittings are on the wastegate side.

I had probably 36-48" of hose on my old wastegate setup... When I had my solenoid mounted on the back of the manifold and used a manifold port for reference. Right now I'm using it in two port mode (until I get my transmission built, as I don't need the range of the 3 port plumbing) and im using ~ 6-12" of hose now. Thats a drastic reduction in hose. I extended the wires and mounted my solenoid right under my air filter. So yes there is a possibility of range. Also manifold pressure vs turbo pressure is going to make a difference. What are you using for your boost reference? Also are you able to disconnect your EBCS and run on gate pressure?

I have the Grimmspeed EBCS set up in two port mode (like you mentioned yesterday) and confirmed that as well with the tuner for the time being. Port 3 goes to the compressor housing on my garrett gtx2867r, port 2 goes to the bottom port of the wastegate. Top port of the WG is open (well, the "side" top port since the top port is basically up against the support beam for the hood latch), and port 1 is open to atmosphere as well instead of going to the intake.

I believe Zach mentioned that if the EBCS is disconnected it will just run off spring pressure, as I was worried about passing inspection a while back and we were discussing the Evap system monitor not being in a ready state. So I was debating on disconnecting that to run the stock solenoid again and I believe he mentioned it would run off spring pressure. For anyone who is curious I have the codes shut off for the purge valve solenoid and the Evap system will still show as a ready monitor and won't show unavailable.

if plumbed correctly it will run of gate in which you will need a rom that doesn't modify the CPC duty cycle so that the ECU can obtain ready status. Simply unplugging will go to the lowest boost level your spring allows. Or if you plumbed it wrong it will boost spike like crazzzyyyyyy =D (I've had this happen way too many times when people did self installs *sigh()

Well i'm not sure what is going on in the background but it allowed a ready status and thats all I cared about

I can try unplugging it, and it should hit 5.8 since thats the spring I have in there for the wastegate. I know for a fact its not plumbed wrong. I mean its two lines...lol. Even with the 3rd line in there it doesn't take much to realize what goes to what. I am meticulous with that crap because I don't want to blow my car up

During the initial teoubleshooting I was doing I took the two hoses off of the EBCS and connected them together. My wastage spring is 7. Something psi. With those hoses connected, bypassing the controler, I ended up with 7psi ok my gauge. But let off around 5k because I wasn't sure if I had other issues.

Give it a drive and see what your base boost is then... and then plug it back in and compare if you have a map for "wastegate" boost pressure. You will likely end up around ~6.5-7PSI with the 5.8 in if you are mounted near the harness plug.

I was saying leave the controller in and unplug it from the harness. As the solenoid can reduce flow to the wastegate and give it slightly more boost. It all depends on the fittings you are using and the exact solenoid, as well as the possible bends in the hose.

Yeah, I never thought how one of those solenoids worked so I just routes the hoses together.

But your way...there is my extra 2-3 psi. I have the 7.25psi spring in the wastegate. Running unplugged I hit 7psi right way. Then 8 for a bit then 9psi once I get over 5500 rpm or so.

I might just give up on the e-tune and have the same person that tuned my 500hp wrx wagon tune this one.

Well...last ditch effort here.

Has anyone with a jdl kit used a delicious tune? Their off the shelf one isn't working working for me at all. Following advice here i bypassed the EBCS and hit 9psi. So they suggested just bypass the EBCS and run off of wastegate pressure. Well...that lead to a dtc for the purge valve. I don't want to hook it up factory because the purge valve will just be randomly opening to control boost.

So today I just bypassed the EBCS by hooking the two hoses together. But I'll probably only get 7psi or so that way.

I almost feel like at this point it was a waste of 1200 bucks. It's been a couple weeks and I still don't know what it's like to drive a turbo brz.

Maybe something is wrong with my car. I don't know at this point.

I'm currently on their flash and go beta tune that they haven't released yet with a cobb 3 port ebcs and a 10psi wastegate spring. Currently hitting 12 psi full boost on e85. Otherwise, runs great

Huh. What the hell is the deal with my car I wonder. I don't care about the extra boost, but I also see knock correction the entire time too.

Oh well. Looks like a dyno tune is in my future then.
