I like the idea of a FA25 or FA24.

Since I'm not a power junky I'd even go so far to say it'd be interesting drive the FRS with the 2.5 Skyactiv G engine (185hp/185tq/87octane). The HP would be down 15hp but the tq would be 30ft/lbs greater and on 87 octane.

Even if the FA20 was an FA25 with those figures with the savings of running on 87 octane I could get down with that. Throw a tune and some 92 octane at it and I'm pretty sure it would really come to life. The bit extra torque would make the car "feel" a bit faster as well.

I haven't seen any info about how the SAG-2.5L responds to a tune and higher octane yet but I do hold out hope since there may be one in the family at some point.

I think the engine will remain and changes to gearing in the transmission for more umph. Also change the rear gearing so you get a true 4:10 with the 17" wheels. Also a torque increase somehow. Get more bang as you can without FI.

It just needs to reach 240HP at the crank while remaining NA and it would be fine. More linear torque and more area under the curve too, of course.

That can already be pretty much achieved with a tune/header/FP & OP/ Intake/ Cat Back and Power Blocks.

It would be great if that power came from the factory though. In order to maintain factory emissions requirements they'd either have to make the engine 2.3-2.5 or go with a VTECesque system.

Would have had to have called it the MX-8 though.

The original post using the word "Real Engine" was done as a "tongue in cheek" effort to see if people would have prefered that the car were made with a more traditional engine design. I had no idea that it would set off such anger or that people would be so emotionally invested in a 4 cylinder machine. This is especially ironic since I also mention that there is nothing wrong with the engine's behavior over the 3 years that I have driven it.

In my mind, it was a "Do you prefer Blondes over Redheads" kind of question. "Yes" or "No" would have sufficed as an answer.

To those that remained civil I thank you, always fun debating an opinion.

To those that think I am an asshole and a troll, since I am a old guy who does invite discourse from time to time, it is probably a good thing that this board has an "Ignore" feature.

I wish it had a twin turbo v8. That's a real engine. None of this pixie dust boxer bullshit.

What's more traditional than an engine design that was patented in 1896 by the one of the first automakers? One that was patented in 1884?

There have been millions upon millions of boxers made, over 21 million by VW alone since 1938, I fail to see how a boxer lacks tradition.

Discourse requires intelligent thought and the ability to articulate yourself. There is nothing logical or reasonable about someone who complains about something, then when asked to elaborate, responds with "I dunno, I just don't like it...". Then you complain that others can't look at their car objectively. I assume you are familiar with irony?

If you don't want people to think you are trolling, don't write like a troll...if you actually wanted this thread to be a "redheads vs blondes" type engine thread, you should have said that. Instead of saying "If they used X engine, we would have more power and could fit a better suspension, and it'd still be under 30k" you just complained about metal pinging as it contracts...

I love the flat 4 layout. The center of gravity and hood line we gain from it is amazingly good.

I don't mind low powered sports cars, but sure more power would've been welcomed.

I'd say that probably 80% of people would agree that if we had a bit more power/torque and no torque dip we'd all be quite happy with it.

So, like 240hp & 190lb-ft without FI? Yes.

But to wish it had something more traditional? No, i like the engine, I just wished i LOVED it...

It would be great if they could have made a car that would just morph into EXACTLY what that owner was dreaming of right when it was purchased.... dreamers.... Too bad there isn't a good aftermarket community for this car so that I could make it exactly what I want it to be.

From reading this forum I would say about 50% can't keep from spinning out with the power it has. Just how many "I wrecked my car" threads do we want to read?

Oh, oh, and some sort of communication medium that made it really easy to find out what the car has, what can be done to it and where to get the parts. Can you just imagine such a world?

Oh what a world that would be!!! But since that world doesn't exist, I guess I will just wish for the car to have been made exactly to MY liking.
