Would you prefer that the FRS had a "real" engine?
I just noticed it was a video. I stand corrected. Pretty cool.
Edit: No bees in that one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

+1 Pro-boxer, this car would have been lesser without it imo, the only replacement for me would be a rotary. I probably would have bought it if it had a solid I4 but I fully agree with this post:
Quote:
I do ascribe to the idea that a c.g. shift of 1 or 2 inches would have been noticeable to even the average driver, affecting proportions, suspension design and handling limits enough to change how I feel about the car. Fortunately (or unfortunately for some) we may never know what could have been. Quote:
Edit: I had to replace coilpack #2, no biggie as far as I'm concerned, ~$120 and two hours of my time over 2.5 years is pretty solid in my book. |

I think the engine is plenty of fun once you get over 5000 rpm lol. Yes, below 5000 rpm the torque dip feel sluggish but that's ok for me. I'm used to Honda's which have no torque anyway.
Actually the reason why I bought this car is because it kind of captures a lot of what made the old Honda's so much fun to drive. Honda never made the fastest sports cars, but they knew how to get the most out of what they build. They keep their cars light and engines small. And they revved the shit out of those little engines and used their VTEC technology to squeeze every last bit of horsepower. The old B16 civics, b18 integras, h22 preludes and k20 RSX type S and civic SI's all made equal or less power than our FA20 motor. But those cars were all fun as hell to drive or just to ride shotgun in. Only thing I wish I had was that awesome sound when the VTEC switchover engages. But it's a fair concession to get rear wheel drive instead

I like F1 and back in the early '50's a company called BRM manufactured a 1.5L Supercharged v16. The super charger pumped 80+ psi into the engine. I believe to date this is still the most complex F1 engine ever built. Anyway to me this is the best sounding engine on the planet IMHO. Put on headphones for the best experience. Enjoy and prepare for an eargasm!!

I bought the BRZ specifically because it had a 2.0L boxer engine in it.
Because my other car already had one...(and 3 others before it): ![]() I actually think boxer engines are cooler than "normal" engines. They have their quirks and advantages. |

The only thing for me is, sporty Subaru motors don't have the best reliability records. I've seen a couple issues pop up on these, and even locally a guy had something internal come undone and blow his valve cover, with no FI or tune ( I believe no tune). I don't know the whole story, but I am slightly worried about long term reliability. My old Z's with the straight 6 were absolutely bulletproof, I loved those engines. They lived forever with very minimal upkeep costs and were easy and cheap to work on, plus they sounded damn sexy and were so smooth to rev out. If nissan makes a good next gen Z (I didn't care for the 370), I could see myself jumping ship if it ticked all the right boxes.

The FA20 isn't terrible - you just have to make it sing to enjoy it. However, if I ever kill mine and have to swap in a new engine, it'll look more like this:

Where do I say that I don't like the car? The message is quite the opposite in that I propose that the car is great DESPITE the engine. I also mention that this is an opinion. People are actually entitled to have those. "My unjustified opinion after 3 years is that I wont ever buy another car with a Subaru engine. Not that it has done me bad, but I just dont like it and time is not making me any fonder" I state that I do not like the Subaru engine, and that based on that I will not be buying Subaru products or Subaru engined products in the future. And what exactly are you winning at? Being in love with an inanimate object? Get some help for that unless you are Japanese, I hear its ok over there. |

So OP thinks being being able to feel the torque dip makes you a princess, but apparently it's super manly to be sad because your engine isn't pretty looking...
It's too bad about the 987 and 981...terrible little cars, cause of their ugly, stupid flat engines...it just looks like...a box of parts just thrown together
