Opti-Coating at 68 Auto Detail?

I'm planning on getting my BRZ Opti-Coated with Opti-Coat Pro in the near future. 68 Auto Detail in Milpitas is a fairly convenient location for me and seems to have a pretty good reputation.

I got a base quote of $500 (w/ a 5-year warranty) from them over the phone for a complete exterior wash, detail, clay bar, alcohol wipe-down, and application of OCP. Any necessary paint correction would be on top of that (will be getting an in-person estimate soon).

Have any of you had experiences with 68's work? What do you guys think of the price? Thanks in advance

Imo, it's a standard quote. I live in Vallejo and inquired at 3 nearby places and gave up after receiving multiple $1,000+ quotes - just decided to push it off for now. Apparently the paint correction is $60/hr on average and it's being assumed so many hours are required.

$1000+ on a new '15 car? Yikes... I guess I'll see what they tell me in terms of paint correction when I drop by for an estimate...

Seems reasonable. Opticoat cost me ~$700 at a Auto Salon Works (single man outfit, ran out of his garage) which included some paint and scratch repair. Highly recommend Andrew, he can tailor his services to your needs/budget and does top notch work.

You pay for quality, yes, but it shouldn't be $1000+ unless the car requires serious prep work.

Opti-Coat, along with many other premium paint coating installations, have a Minimum Advertised Price. I have to check, but I believe Opti-Coat or Opti-Pro or whatever OPT calls it now... the MAP is $499.

And you are probably correct. It is just for the coating installation. Any paint correction is extra. I expect any brick and mortar shop will charge between $75 and $100/hr for any detailing work.

Did the dealership detail your car when they delivered it to you??

You need to read up on the warranty terms for the 5-year warranty. The warranty is not just get the car coated and it is covered for 5 years. You'll need to have the coating maintained once a year in order to keep the warranty valid.

When my car was new I was also interested in opticoat and asked around. $500 + the paint correction is a reasonable price for the service.

I also personally go to 68 auto detail to get my car washed there. It's $35 bucks for exterior wash, interior wipe down, with vacuum. I always leave there impressed by how clean my car is. I can't say about their other services as I only go for the car wash, but based on my experience I wouldn't hesitate to use them for detailing.

Yeah, I saw that mentioned on the forums, thanks for the heads up. I'll need to ask about it when I bring my car into 68 Auto as that may not be practical for me. At least according to their website they also offer the same service without the 5-year warranty.

That's good. Makes things easier. You still want to get the paint corrected. Obviously decontaminated and corrected. Applying the coating isn't difficult... it is the prep. The paint needs to be thoroughly prepped in order for the coating to adhere correctly.

Brought my car in to 68 Detail and got it looked at. Paint's in good condition and basically doesn't need any correction work outside of the normal prep work included in the $500 Opti-Coat Pro install package.

Only recommendation was a machine polish if I want even more shine to the paint prior to the OCP application; I was quoted $200 for that.

$700 seems a bit steep, so I think I may just skip the machine polish...

If it were me, I would splurge and have the paint correction done. Might as well. Even at $700, you are still under the market price of the OCP install.

I paid $1200 to have Cquartz Finest applied by Joe who used to work at Orinda Detail. Included Paint Correction as well.

so 700 is a great price.
