Which Intake for the FR-S?

I'm between both Perrin and Mishimoto, box or mounted in the front bumper?

Plus they do extensive testing (which they share) to support their product releases.

The Mishimoto intake is just about the same thing. Is it not? Not trying to sound like a asshole.

I'd say none purely from reasons that i value most upgrades by their price/performancy. Aftermarket drop-in filter will net you 2/3rds of gains of full intake for 1/5th of price. And less non-stock parts - often better resale value or less stock things to bolt back before sale
For this platform main way to get extra power in NA is header+tune. Only if that's already upgraded, and one must absolutely squeeze anything left to gain (with diminishing returns, as many parts gains don't stack), then also catback exhaust & intake.

I have the header/exhaust/stage 2 tune/light weight crank pulley/oil cooler kit/mishimoto radiator....had AEM intake, but it did not fit after the oil cooler kit install.

It is often the case that better flow comes at the expense of worse filtration. As it is impossible to find test data on filtration for each filter one doesn't know how much, if any, extra solids are being ingested by the engine. I do not know if it is significant; just that there is no free lunch.

Oil analysis will have excess silica from a crap filter... There has been testing years ago as well (mainly for Supras but the different brands haven't really changed their tech at all)

Do you want to support a company that spends money/time developing parts that deliver a proven performance increase?

Or

A company that is widely seen as copying the designs of the former?

Thanks for considering one of our intake systems for your FR-S! As noted, we have two different setups depending upon what you are looking for in terms of performance and filter servicing.

Cold-air System (Behind the Bumper)
http://www.mishimoto.com/subaru-brz-...intake-13.html Basic Specs
  • Direct fit for the 2013+ Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S
  • Provides 10 whp / 8 wtq gains while maintaining A/F ratios with no additional tuning
  • Mandrel-bent aluminum intake piping includes CNC-machined MAF housing and air straightener
  • Fully serviceable oiled air filter provides 16% increase in filter surface area compared to the stock filter
  • Available with a polished or wrinkle black finish
  • Powder-coated air diverter plate provides ample airflow to both the radiator and intake filter
  • Improves engine tone
  • True cold-air design places the filter outside the hot engine bay
  • Smooth piping eliminates restrictions and improves airflow
  • Mishimoto Lifetime Warranty

Our performance intake is currently available via a discounted pre-sale at the rate of $275. Let me know if I can answer any questions about either kit.

Thanks

We design all of our intake systems in-house and do not "copy" any products during the process. The airbox setup was designed to take advantage of the factory intake air duct, which means (like most intake systems) the airbox placement is similar. The products in question may be similar, but are in no way identical. Our airbox is specifically designed to fit with our air filter and to function with our oil cooler sandwich plate. These were two important factors that impacted our final design.

Thanks
-John
