That's not too far from the existing rumor, since the ND chassis is supposed to be the basis for the FF RX-7.

Somehow I doubt the next 86 will still have the same name if it will be vastly different. The current 86 seems to be a one off just like the Altezza.

To me the Toyota sports car trio will always be Celica, Supra, and MR2. I think they could be working towards this goal and resurrecting all 3 names when it's the right time.

Your krayzieeeeeee

haha kidding, but yeah i also somwhat consider the 86 being a one off and them not doing anything else to it regarding a facelift etc...maybe in another 20 years they will make one again

86 will stay the 86 (even if the bore/stroke change a little). It will remain 2.0L (due to tariffs). The current chassis is phenomenally strong, crash worth and fast. Power could be bumped to 220bhp/170tq. It could get lighter, there's a lot of weight (100+lbs) that could be dropped at the factory by changing materials used in the seats, brakes, suspension, removal of the spare and tools for a can of fix a flat or a compressor, etc. The car can be a better version of what it currently is. Wholesale changes are not going to happen.

They landed on the west coast today. Well, at least some of the Launch Editions did. Several of the LE buyers have been told they will have their cars by mid-July at the latest. There are reportedly non-LE MX-5s on the same ships that may be intended for dealer display. You may be able to grab a drive in an unclaimed LE or a dealer car in about two weeks.

That would have been one of the pre-production ones that are making the rounds. They have been to a lot of magazines and online site test. Those folks have taken them to places like the Tirerack test track, Lime Rock, Laguna Seca, Mullholland Dr and the Tail of the Dragon. Here is a photo of the first known production NDs being unloaded in Tacoma.

So much for that rumor: http://www.motoring.com.au/news/2015...-5-coupe-52152

Quote:
The Toyota 86 MX-5 link up was ruled out categorically by a number of Mazda execs at the weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

“It simply is not a consideration. If it was a coupe, it wouldn’t be an MX-5.”
Like I said earlier, the biggest problem with the initial rumor was the chassis being designed for a roadster rather than a coupe.

I am surprised Mazda even bothers to respond to any rumors started by that site. Of course, this supposed response also comes from that site so perhaps they never did.

I remember when a Subaru exec categorically denied building a RWD sports coupe with Toyota too.

The primary problem with the Miata has always been a lack of of hip, head, leg and shoulder space.
