Switched manual transmission fluid. 6-5 grind gone but hard to find 5-4 now.
I switched from stock manual transmission fluid to Amsoil at 6k and just today switched to Motul 300 at 22k. Previously I had issues with the shifter grinding when going from 6th to 5th above 70mph (or 3k RPM). That's now gone after going to Motul 300. However I've noticed consistently finding trouble going from 5th to 4th gear. Whereas before I could just shift down and to the left a bit, now I have to kinda bring it to the left a bit more than usual which makes me worried i'll mis-shift into 2nd gear. I'm not too sure how transmissions work... but could something have dislodged during the swap? Should I give it a few more miles to let it break in a bit better, I've only driven 20 miles on this new fluid.

you should always be in your head not shifting from one gear direct to another in this type of motion. you are going out of gear, to a neutral position. then you are going from the neutral position to the next gear. you're probably saying "duh" but this train of thought allows you to better "know" where neutral is and where a gear is relative to neutral. it doesn't matter where one gear is from another unless you are shifting 1 - 2 3-4 or 5-6 or those shifts reversed. for 2-3 4-5 6-4 (rev match please) etc etc you need to literally feel and be aware of neutral position.
I don't know if this helps but.. it's something that has come with 14 years of experience with me.

Yeah I've been shifting slower and trying to let it hit neutral and thst definitely helps. I never shift two gears just because I don't drive that aggressively amd I love Rev matching during downshifts haha.

Is the new transmission fluid within spec.......?? Are you sure the transmission was filled all the way up .. ?? If so, I'd give it a few hundred miles for the transmission to get used to the different fluid ...... or your imagination to settle down ...... ![]() humfrz |

everything seems ok now lol. drove 100 additional miles today for work and when I got home I was downshifting 5-4 multiple times at different rpms and everything works splendidly. guess it just needed some warming up
