Traction control light at high RPM

Hey all,

Got a check engine light at the track yesterday, it is for cylinder 1 misfires, going to take the car to dealer to get in done under warantee. This morning i also noticed that i have the traction control light comming on at high RPM, between about 5500 rpm to 7300 rpm the light stays on (Traction light inside the rpm gauge)

Anyone experienced the traction control light issue before?

Because the intelligent thing to do when you have a Check Engine Light for a misfire is to continue to drive the car at redline...

The car does go into limp mode with the cel... however it only helps limit the damage to your engine. You can still do more damage by driving higher up in the Rev range. I'm in shock that you would be driving above 5k rpm wit a potential misfire. I feel bad for your poor car.

Also - if the CEL is related to timing, then the system might disable TCS as well depending on the specific problem.

WAG says you have a coil pack going out.

And yes - whenever you get a CEL you should hold the engine at redline as long as possible - helps with the diagnostics (I mean autopsy/post-mortem).

I actually tried this after i cleared the check engine and it had dissapeared, today i was logging timing to see if the car is pulling timing when the light comes on and infact it is but the CEL has not come back on.. ordered a coilpack today and just going to swap it out tomorrow to reduce downtime.. but main point is the car wasnt floored with the CEL on, it was after it cleared to see if problem was still there or it was just on the track for some reason..

Are you sure that's not your shift light?

Is it yellow/orange or red?

If your car is throwing a misfire code, the traction light will briefly flash once to indicate that a code was thrown. If it is STAYING ON, it means you are throwing multiple codes back to back at high RPM. Continuing to drive is not a good idea; you may have done some long term damage to your car.

I've got the same issue mate - sounds like you've got the coil pack problem as per the TSB at http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...9&d=1422657737 - CSG Mike's explanation of how this effects the TC light sounds plausible - I hope so, mine is at the dealer today getting this issue fixed, I'll get it back sooner if there is just one issue to fix! Take it in for warranty work under the TSB, and don't listen to the nannies proclaiming "imminent engine doooom!!!", but do take it easy if the coil pack is bad enough to misfire :-).

Yeah man, CSG Mike was correct as usual

If theres one thing ive learned forums you have two kinds of people, those that are bored and have nothing better to do in their free time but make stupid comments, and those who actually give good input and help one another solve problems.

I replaced the coil pack and the traction light doesn't light up anymore. My logs showed the car was pulling timing, its wierd there was no CEL light and that it had disappeared, but got the issue fixed

I troubleshoot billion dollar electrical systems for a living AND I slept at a Holiday Inn Express last night. :-)
The system uses timing to control the TCS.
If the ECU detects any problem with the ignition subsystem, it will disable TCS.

It is not. The system uses ignition timing to reduce torque from the engine when the TCS system detects wheel slippage.
If there are any faults in the ignition system, TCS will NOT be operational.
