If Toyota and Subaru made a version that cost 8k more with a Turbo and Sport Pkg it would be the poor mans Cayman S. But I have never seen all these things for less than 50k

Pure dynamics
RWD
Lightweight
Turbocharged engine
Low CoG
Low slung sports car shape
Power to weight ratio at 10lbs/1hp or less

S2000 was close @ $30-34k. Not sure why you listed turbo though. Ideally a pure sports car would have an NA engine.

Keep an eye out over the next 6 months. Honda is about to drop their S2000 "successor". Lightweight and mid-engine...it's coming.

Videos like these are pretty pointless. Until you are in a really really really high class, it's 99.9% driver skill. I've passed all sorts of super cars at the track in a shitty car, does that mean my shitty car is better than the super cars? no. it doesn't even necessarily mean i'm a better driver. they could have all sorts of reasons to want to drive slow.

Both of those assertions are unsubstantiated. Bullshit.

Thanks for posting this so people can really understand the difference between these cars dynamically. We can read magazine comparisons all day but to actually see them in action explains it perfectly. Weight is clearly the enemy of the Mustang, and lack of power the enemy of the FR-S/BRZ. Much easier to add the latter than to remove the former (without making serious compromises in comfort).

Not sure what the price would be like after inflation, but the FD Mazda RX-7 fulfills all the rest I believe.

I understand FD RX7s retailed for about 39k in 1994. Adjusted for inflation, we are looking at around $62,800. We are well into Cayman territory at that price.

$33,500 in 1991 is around $57,000 now.

In theory yes, but we've lately seen cars like the 350Z debut for close to the same price as the 300ZX while keeping performance the same. The last RX-8 was also in the $30k ballpark.
