I think the fact that the center section oil outlet is square and all the flanges for the drain hoses are round allows for oil to get to the gasket. That or the flange isn't sealing well enough. Regardless I don't want to leave things this uncertain and ordered a drain flange with a square inlet and O ring.
Yikes. Let us know how those parts hold up.

Where did you get the new drain flange? I'm still waiting on my kit but I'd like to grab one while I'm waiting. I've never had luck keeping that seal leak free on other cars.

Didn't have any issues till now, not sure what has changed, maybe the darn extreme heats we've been having don't help. Just made another gasket till my new flange arrives. I got in on eBay, it's from a company called PRL Motorsports.

Can't attached images the right way via my phone but here's the link. Just wait and see, maybe you have good luck. I know mine was doing great till these 90F+ days came around. No biggie honestly, don't sweat it.

After another failed attempt at eliminating the leak, yesterday afternoon I made another one and today the gasket started to get wet again. I'm going on the second gasket, fortunately for me I have the flange coming in, if not I'm going to use the sealant used on the oil pan for this car specifically which is one tough mofo. Either it stops leaking or it'll be sealed shut and it will stop leaking. What beats me is why the hell did this thing start to leak now.. nothing has change, the turbo hasn't moved.. no damage, accidents.. nothing to alter any of the previous conditions. It sealed well before, why not now , anyways, below is the "ported o ring sealed square drain flange I was talking about. I already contacted the guys at JDL to see if they have any suggestions but understand this has really nothing to do with them.

That really sucks. So the stock flange is round with no o ring, correct?

The point of getting the new one is so the flow geometries match up? Also, you're still going to use a gasket once that gets in, right?

The stock one and most return flanges are round, no o-ring, just the paper gasket. I don't know why but most manufacturers including Precision use this round hole flange. It could be to use with the bigger t4 center cartridges and not have to make difference flanges, im sure its not creating too much of a problem for them otherwise they'll change the design. Since im at it already mind as well get a matching one to the turbos drain hole and replace that paper gasket. Although its "oil resistant", I think any paper like material mixed with oil will eventually get damaged.

A good online store to pick up turbo parts from is atpturbo.com. Should be able to pick up more gaskets from there. Thats odd you got a leak from that, I've never had issues in the past on them but it makes sense it could happen with all the heat the CHRA is seeing and the surrounding heat.

Thanks for that suggestions, ATP and AGP are one of the first that come up when searching for those gaskets. Maybe its that gasket paper im using, the odd thing is that the oem one started to leak to after several months of use The gaskets are pretty affordable so i'll get a few just in case.

yeah thats weird, i know the one that JDL sent me was not the typical paper gasket ones, but a different material. Was hoping it would hold up better than the typical paper ones.. oh well lol.

Im sure it'll hold up.. could really be one of those things that happen to one in a million under very odd circumstances lol. Just documenting all this stuff for anyone in the future that may encounter something similar. Since these cars aren't oem turbo its hard to find little issues like these on the forums.

A part of flange design is cost to manufacture. Round is extremely easy. Just drill it. Square, not so easy so more cost intensive.

Either way, the flange you bought should definitely help paired with a not paper gasket. I'd imagine once the paper is saturated, you're screwed.

Does the JDL one hold up better?
