I get it, I couldn't watch Breaking Bad the first time I tried and haven't gone back yet. Though I will try.

But this has dragons and snow zombies, so I'm well aware that it is fantasy drama and not real drama, the impact is lessened and ignoring the brutality of humanity does nothing to prevent it, there exists monstrosities as bad or worse in our own history books and reported daily as you so rightly note.

There are complex characters and motives at work, even the most wicked villain on first glance is sympathetic a few episodes later and the knight in shining armor in one moment is revealed to be monstrous in another and you can watch his/her heart shatter in another, nobody is truly evil (except a few) or pure-hearted.

Sadly there are some character's grossly simplified and turned into shallow caricatures from the books but there's more than enough good to be entertained for most.

Good point, I've never met a snow zombie. I've never met anything snow alive in the first place, such that it could become dead in order to become undead.

Honestly, it's just not my kind of show. I'm sure I could get into it if I felt like it, but only so much time and... eh. Maybe some day, maybe not. If it's a good story I could see it happening... then again, you said books? Maybe I should read that - far more my speed.

I could always read my family history, parts of it definitely ring true. It was a messy time back then.

didn't think i would be into it.

i started when season 2 was wrapping up and went in thinking "Meh, I'm not really into this 'genre' but whatever I'll check out a few episodes..."

Probably my favorite show now, lol

You know how I know I'm not optimistic humanist? Because I read that post, which was funny btw, and I thought to myself: "Strip away any pretense of modern law and order and you've pretty much defined the natural human condition, in which the world, for humans, is both incredibly ugly and unsafe because of... other humans."

Or more succinctly: "I'm stronger than you, give me that." Then elaborate and extrapolate from there...

The first three books are on par with anything fantasy/sci-fi ever released, top notch. Then he got enough clout to overrule his editor and the finished products (books 4 & 5) suffered from a lack of pruning.

Get out of here now and avoid spoilers, there are some great moments that will loose all impact if you know about them beforehand. And the books are in more shades of gray, the show's interpretation of certain moments leaves a lot to be desired imo. Still a very good adaptation, but that's typically not the highest bar.

Curiosity.

Some of the design work I've seen apparent in stills has me intrigued enough to be curious about the show.

Plus now I want to see a snow zombie.

However, the actor that plays Jon Snow has publicly said he's done with GoT, as in his employment is over and that his character is, in fact dead. He's currently working on other projects. So there's that.

He'll be resurrected by the red witch .. the timing of her return is no coincidence. (of all places for her to go ?) Of course the 'Jon Snow' character is dead... He'll come back as some sort of Fire God Zombie Killer ! (Killing all of the Night watch assheads .... especially Olly ) Maybe future battle with Cersi's undead mountain ?

I've come the conclusion, that with so many key characters killed off, I can no longer get vested in any one character and therefore the only reason I have left to watch the show, the only outcome I now want to see... Whitewalkers take over everything and sit on the Iron Throne.

I agree with everything in this post. It is also why I get frustrated when trying to watch the show's adaptation. I hate to be that "just read the books" guy, but there is so very much cut from the adaptation to get things to fit into TV and season format that it makes the show, while done well as a production, seem hollow to me. That said, I immediately knew when social media started blowing up with "For the watch..." where the current season had ended. Technically, this is the same cliffhanger the book-readers have been stuck on for years, unfortunately.
