Update to my car seat situation.

Both kids are now in backless booster seats. I was originally thinking that they will have tons of room, but, because the seats are so deep, their knees don't actually make it to the edge of the seat to properly bend their legs. So no real advantage in that respect yet.

The compromise for now is that they essentially straddle the front seats with their legs on either side. The biggest savings is that they climb in themselves and they buckle themselves. That and I will now be able to fold my back seat back down when required and by myself.

The next stage will be when they are big enough to bend their legs.

I feel like theres a sweet spot with how well kids fit in the back seat.

If they are in car seats and booster seats, the length of their legs might not let them bend their knee over the seat comfortably (if you get what i mean),

My daughter isnt in a booster anymore and her legs reach right over her seat, so she can pull the seat all the way back up against her legs and always says she's perfectly comfortable and likes the seats.

Yep, I looped some zip ties on the end for it to reach.
I also use zip ties to strap the base in.
I just shoved the headliner clips in. They're still in place almost 2 years later.

My snarky take on fitting children in the car: give them a little ketamine and stack them in the trunk like logs (rear seat down, of course.) I mean, you can fit 4 tires and a helmet back there. You could probably fit 4 kids if they aren't too big and you stack them.

You mean sort of like Andrew's post if you read it out of context?

Just throw some snacks in every once in a while and you too can go 2 years without parenting.
