This just happened to me yesterday. I was about to call the dealer, but wanted to check the boards first. I'm glad I did. I will check this out after work.

I hear tell that the new models will have a "up & down" type switch ..... rather than a "push button" switch ....... yep, that's the refresh .......

Nah, they'll just get rid of it all together, call it weight reduction, and charge more.

I've had this problem twice before. Both times was because I was practicing drifting and of my boxing duffle in the trunk with some other work out stuff. That first time I just didn't open my trunk for maybe a week or two. Now that I looked up why it happened I feel smarter.

I was moving the factory jack around today, and must have bumped that little trunk disabler toggle button inside the trunk. Later in the day, my trunk key button stopped working. I just happened to see a light on the dash related to security, and remembered reading about the button in the owner's manual. Funny to see this has happened to a lot of other people.
