Just going off the prices the dealers are throwing around, i'm considering holding off for a year or two, grab something else in the meantime that might hold a little higher trade value. Not looking forward to a 7 year finance on ~$45k :/

for me if price is too high i might get a Scirocco R demo, drive it for 3 years then change to a 86/BRZ.

I always had a thing for the Scirocco R, can't quite put my finger on why I kind of fancy it. LOL! I think it's the aggressive look and stance. There is only one thing that I kind of dislike is that, it's got a fat ass. LOL!

Wouldn't TCO of 2 new cars in six years > TCO of 1 new car in six years due to depreciation rates?

yes so it's only worth it if i can get the Rocco cheap (ie. demo, no option, minimal mods) and assume that in 3 years time 86 will have discount.

for 86 i plan to keep it a long time either way (6/7 years at least) so depreciation won't be too bad for a $40k car. and with the reduced purchase price for both cars, it won't cost me too much but i get to try/own another car.

also i don't drive long distance and running cost for the Rocco won't be too bad.

also if 86 is priced too high initially, it might have problem with resale price = lose $$.

Nice strategy by Toyobaru.

1. Keep the dealerships in the dark up until launch
2. Save money and not do adverts because the core buyers already know about this car. No need to advertise.
3. Make sure that the first car allotment is very small. Keep the car in high demand to the 6 or 7 people per dealership that want one.
4. Take their deposits now but don't give them a price yet. Wait until the first shipment arrives. This adds to the buildup.
5. Now we have the upperhand. Charge them +50K for the high end spec. +45K for the low end spec. The people who reserved really want this car and they know that the numbers are limited. If they back out, the next people in line will take the bait.
6. Rinse repeat every shipment of cars until the quota is met.

That being said, brace yourselves for the price, before committing to buy, really have to think outside the box when it arrives. Hm...

if you don't have an alternative choice, yes you are screwed!!

i don't know about AWD. i don't do many quick launch, don't want to ride with another 200kg all the time, don't want another hatchback this time (i own a GTI right now).

if $40k - 50k on road means $40k base, $45k high spec and $50k high spec + aero in auto. then it kinda make sense but still a bit too high in my view.
