Nürburgring Nordschleife time attack

This time attack is not mine, but this guy did an exceptional run with a car having some modifications and a stock engine. Too bad that Subaru never tried to officially promote more the car in this area. The actual lap starts after 0.50:

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Aa8vn3z8ZA"]Hot lap Subaru BRZ Stage 2 - 7:40 Jumping @ Pflanzgarten - YouTube[/ame]

Time result is 7:40

Main changes in the car are: rollcage and stripped out internal, bucket seats, sticky tires (similar dimension with stock), suspension, exhaust, upgraded brake lines and fluid, racing pads.

Good driver and good handling is the key for the result. No need for massive power, no need for massive breaks, keep weight minimal ...

Also fun to pass the Ferrari Testarossa at 5:45.

Yes, this is not a recent result. However, I got bored hearing constantly that our cars are not performance cars and many journalists and reviewers using just the "fun to drive" motto.

7:40 at the Ring is simply impossible with our cars, especially at those power levels, even with a turbo or two speed limitations alone will make that impossible

How do you get 7.40 out of that clip? The 7.40 refers to the time of the jump.

I am pretty amazed that you don't want to believe the result of your own cars. The 7:40 is not the time of a jump, but the complete track apart from the last big straight. The timing was made on a tourist drive day and there is a rule to slow down in the last part of the track. If we count also this part the time would be in the range of 8:00 - 8:10 for the whole track. However, again this is a really impressive result from an amateur driver and with a co-driver in the car!

I am pretty sure that the result with a professional driver and without a co-driver it would be below 8 minutes.

And as I said before, too bad that Subaru didn't try to promote this more officially. Check here a video with Tommi Mäkinen with a JDM spec WRX STI sedan on the same track:

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2To_5XjIaMk"]Subaru WRX STI sedan Nurburgring record lap with Tommi Mäkinen - on-board footage - YouTube[/ame]

Time result is 7:55

In fact, the BRZ is much much faster in cornering and it lacks power on the straights. From my point of view, BRZ is a more advanced car since you don't need all the time to accelerate and break so hard. A much more rewarding experience for the driver and with the same result on the track ...

absolutely, looks like great driving and anything below 8 mins still exceptional all I am saying is the original post is a bit misleading since it says the "Time result is 7:40" ..that's all, I have been closely following the official Nurburgring Lap times for a while

yeah I know this, actually owned two STIs myself and watched this video when it first released, you also know the fact that the turbo was not the factory turbo that you see in the USDM STIs correct? problem with the Nurburgring lap times, most of the time, manufacturers don't strictly bring the same car that you get from the dealership, Porsche team accused Nissan for using R comps and said it actually could 20 seconds slower than what Nissan claimed when equipped with the street tires that originally come with the car.. same can be said for the exotic cars, you have spent additional $70k or something to get the LFA's special Nurburgring kit to achieve the claimed times same with Ferrari, if the car tuned for a specific track that's cheating , GM might be an exception though since they specifically mention that they use a dealer car with proper alignment

at the end, of course BRZ is a great car and that's the reason why I constantly get better lap times than other cars that I owned in the past but Nurburgring is not the right track to keep up with the big dogs

It is still an exceptional result and never so well communicated to the media. In fact, if I was selling muscle cars with at least the double amount of money I would hate this car. It breaks the old rules

And it is still much better, because you get a much more linear feel. You can even notice it in the video where the straights seem linear like straights ...

I didn't say that 7:40 is the complete track. You cannot run the complete track in a tourist driving day. The driver counts his time up to the last curve, because afterwards he releases the gaz petal. However, your "objective" reasoning Captain Snooze couldn't observe that. I still believe that the run was very fast and as I said before, curves resembled like straights. There was a typing mistake "straights seem linear like straights". If you have a good handling car, you don't have to slow down a lot, you don't need so much the large breaks, you focus on other things. Actually, you have a more complete racing car.

Anyway, I won't continue the debate over here. The videos are there and whoever likes can compare. Besides, don't forget that the first video is of two guys having fun with a rental BRZ. The second video is of a professional world-championship driver, doing multiple lap times in a closed track, trying hard to beat the old WRX STI time record. And if you guys still have your doubts, try to find the TRD griffon project car videos which break some very difficult timing records. Not with turbos, not with superchargers, not with more power. Most of the time with handling!

I agree. Pretty cool to see one of these get a somewhat close result to a STI driven by a pro driver. I'm sure that with the same driver in the BRZ, the times would be very very close.

Subaru did a good job with the BRZ and I think they took a lot of what they learned from it and applied it to the new WRX/STI chassis. Yes they're still glorified 4 door sedans, but they're definitely a big improvement compared to the prior generation.
