I only saw him a few times in the halls - but I've heard he didn't really talk about it much...

Getting 30 to 32. It really depends on who is or is not in front of me on the "fun 8 or so mile" part of my hour drive to and from work!

Disappointing, as on our two Subarus both the temp and MPG gauges have been pretty accurate.

what? Temp gauge is not accurate?

Not trolling, but my car took like 20min to get to normal running (mid) temp the other day... Happened after I had not driven it for like X<1.5 weeks straight. I've yet to let it warm up like that since. I just do the 2-3min warm up, rev it at 2.5k for like 20sec, then take off to work.

Last month my BF and I drove down to Florence. His car was jacked up so I got to drive! Wheeeee!
It was Memorial Day weekend, so I didn't drive with my usual gusto because cops. (Plus we had some contraband in the car so cop attention was very undesirable)

Anyway, I averaged 40+ on the trip, which surprised the hell out of me. The previous day my average was around 20 (but that was local driving not highway)

Nice OP! Don't be surprised by the MPG, I too had a similar experience. My husband and I recently moved back from central Florida to northeast Atlanta. We paper, rock, scissored for who would drive the FRS and I lost (the FRS is my DD). We averaged about 65-70mph over the course of the 450 mile journey north in he first week of August last year. He was born and raised in the windy city of Chicago, so southern summer heat is not his thing. So he had the A/C on full blast and I followed him in the moving truck. I had to refill that darn truck twice and the FRS still had about 2 gallons left by the time we made it to our new place as the refuel light came on 2 blocks from our destination.

My FRS is a 6MT and I do not by any means treat my gas pedal like it is made of glass. My husband and I are both spirited drivers and have been impressed by the gas economy of this car, it has been an awesome bonus.

The real way to calculate the MPG is by seeing how many miles you are getting per tank and doing a bunch of math. :P

I once got up to 125mpg....

using that other onboard calculator that goes up and down depending on how hard you push the pedal.

I've been averaging around 29mpg with hills, inclines, start/stop, and highway driving. Then again, I've only gone over 4k RPM a few times and by accident! I promise.
