Not exactly. The reason there's not as much of a graphics disparity is because studios that develop for both PCs and consoles are intentionally holding back the graphics on PC versions. Probably the biggest recent example was Ubisoft's Watch_Dogs.

For those who don't know, here's the story. The demo was showed off at E3 (on PC) and looked absolutely stunning. The game was released months later and looked like garbage compared to the prerelease footage. Big deal, right? Games get showed off all the time that look different from the release. But this is where things get interesting. Enterprising modders looked into the game files to find out why and found a whole bunch of disabled features and settings, and managed to enable them. Boom, it looks like it did in the E3 demo. And moreover, most users even noticed a substantial INCREASE in performance with these settings enabled.

Ubisoft later released a patch for the game that, among other various fixes, broke these graphical enhancements - making the game look and run like Ubisoft wanted it to. Then Ubisoft had the gall to respond with outright lies about how it may have made the game look better but it caused performance and stability problems for people who used it. Bullshit.

Ubisoft is one of many studios that do this. CD Projekt Red's recent Witcher 3 release had a similar story about how the PC demo looked incredible but there was a noticeable decrease in quality on release. So far they've been less shitty about it than Ubisoft, however.

So yes, there is a graphics disparity between PCs and consoles. Perhaps console players don't see it that way but a lot of us PC gamers do, since we're not getting the graphics the games are capable of, and we know precisely why that is.

Isn't it more along the lines of the programmers don't know how to fully utilize the hardware in the graphics cards? Might explain why my 3 year old card is still running games on max settings.

The PC crowd would definitely be the ones to start Skynet, but they'd also be the ones to end it. Within 3 hours there would be T-1000s tea-bagging each other and spray painting ****s on walls.

This isn't true at all, unfortunately. The Xbox One's hardware is already bottlenecking a lot of games coming out for it. Developers are struggling to get the 60 FPS, 1080p or even a solid 30fps at times with some games. A lot of Xbox One games aren't even 1080p because they couldn't get good enough performance out of it at that resolution, which is really pathetic nowadays compared to what pcs are capable of.

The PS4 is a bit better, but even with that, it's really obvious that it's nowhere near the level of pc. Look at Bloodborne (PS4) vs Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin (PC)... Both games created by the same developer (From Software)... Bloodborne is newer and more graphically intense (and it's one of PS4's very best games), but its framerate and loading times are HORRIBLE in comparison to Scholar of the First Sin... I mean, REALLY bad. It would have much better performance on pc.

My pc is 4 years old now and still decimates the Xbone/PS4 in a lot of ways. I won't buy anything for the PS4 now if it's available on PC. I only have The Last of Us and Bloodborne. Only exclusives.

-PC/PS4/Xbox 360 owner.

EDIT: Disclaimer: I am a professional software developer & also a musician/music producer, so my PC serves much more purpose than just gaming. I didn't build it only for gaming.

Dude! You reached that goal long ago! You and a bunch of others make me laugh many times a day! The HR manager in the office next door is pretty sure I have lost my mind but is too scared by the constant cackling to ask me if I am OK.

Now that the current-gen consoles are running on x86 PC hardware it's very unlikely. And given that the PS4 is using a [admittedly modified] version of OpenGL and the XBOne is using DirectX studios should be right at home developing for those consoles with very little learning curve. It's simply a limitation of the hardware in those consoles.

There's a good comparison here:

Btw, while speaking of overpriced computers and t-1000s, how much should a decent 27-30" monitor cost? Dell wants over $600 for an "ultra sharp" 27" monitor with their area-51...

My recent searches have resulted in a huuuuge variety. But thinking I'll skip the monitor packaged in with Dell and buy one elsewhere
