I feel like they're very eager to get rid of this car because there haven't been any serious offers before me and it's been on the lot for 2 months. Car itself is okay, has a track pipe (I can tolerate the noise but it's probably pretty obnoxious), paint is decent for a used car, and there's a little rattling noise which I'm sure isn't hard to nerf. What I told them was I need to get rid of the track pipe at cost so I want a lower price.

I'm guessing they saw the twinkle in your eye. If they know you're willing to walk that might work in your favor. That's my Achilles heel. If I like something my poker face goes to shit.

I'm terrible about that. The salesman left "to talk to the manager," and I went and sat in the showroom BRZ. They knew they had me.

Mrs. Ultra and I went to look at a 65 Mustang convertible for her today. It's been her dream car since she was a teenager. 85 Kmi original everything. It needs a full body-off resto but it hasn't been molested at all. Owner is asking 25K.

Carfax says first owner bought it in Colorado, took it here. It has red cloth on the dash, a track pipe, and tint which is going to get me a ticket sooner or later. I used the Colorado thing to talk them down since Colorado weather is harder on cars than California.

I'll need a different exhaust, new side window tint, and I'm probably going to switch the spoiler out.

When I was at the dealer I thought I put on a pretty good show, I complained a bunch about the mods and the wear on the interior. My mom went with me and was scowling saying the car sucked lol. It helps that I'm not even that enthusiastic about getting an FRS/BRZ in the first place.

These people are pretty bad at selling cars, I wasn't happy with their offer and the guy says "hey man we losin so much money on this car man, it's such a good deal man" (after one of their guys basically told me the price they paid for the car lol, I told him to cut the crap, in a slightly more polite way)

It was mom's car and she passed. The daughters all drove it growing up and to be fair, mechanically, it's in surprisingly good shape. It really was gently used. It just needs all the million little things. Probably another 10K to get it showroom.

I'm on the fence but supportive. Her decision. She doesn't want to go over 20.

Maybe they think you are 'negging' it too hard? Like you wouldn't really be interested if you didn't like all the stuff you pointed out.

Call them and tell them you will keep looking until one that is more fairly priced without all the parts change hassle comes up.

Then if they match your price, tell them that for you it's a yes, but your Mom is loaning you the money and has a rigid limit of $500 under your initial offer. Then tell them you have to look at another that's in that price range, but you don't like the colour as much as this one.

Should see if they can become flexible or not.

I forgot about the competing offer tactic, good one! Will bring that up tomorrow. There are other cars in the price range in the area.

Remember, whatever price that you pay for used at a dealer you are getting fucked in the ass. You are negotiating for the smallest d!ck, most lube, and maybe a reach-around.

Used car salesmen are the lyingest of lying liars. Well maybe second only to politicians. But it's close.
