If I had the cash, the first thing I would do after taking delivery of my GT350 (apart from potentially wrapping it around a tree during the initial new car-hoon-stage) would be taking it to the nearest exhaust/header shop and ferrari-ing the hell out the exhaust system

This sounds pretty damn awesome to me. The GT350 does sound extremely awesome though. Both cars I'm sure are going to be pretty spectacular this generation.

Ferraris have their unique note because they are typically low displacement high revving v8's with a flat plane crank.

This is a relatively high displacement moderately high revving flat plane crank.

It will have a deeper throatier growl (than a ferrari) no matter what you do to the exhaust.

The largest displacement v8 ferrari made was a 4.5 liter in the 458 italia and that is still quite a bit smaller than the 5.2 in the GT350.

It's pretty complicated actually. Lots of factors, not just about flat plane vs. cross plane, although that in itself makes a BIG difference. Firing order really makes the difference in sound - and firing order is dependent on crank configuration Also manifold design (greatly affects exhaust note) is dependent on firing order/crank configuration among other things, so it's all related really.

Think about old Esprit V8, small displacement flat plane crank (3.5L), and didn't sound anywhere near as good a a Ferrari V8, even if you removed the turbos altogether - firing order for an F360 is 1-8-3-6-4-5-2-7, firing order for an Esprit V8 is 1-5-3-7-4-8-2-6.

Power numbers are looking amazing. Pricing is about where I expected it to be, maybe a bit less. Probably gonna be finding a way to order a 2016 if I can find a low enough dealer markup (or even sticker if I'm really lucky...)

I've decided this will probably be my next performance car. I'm going to wait till the 2017/18 MY hit the lots. By then, the demand will be down and you won't have to worry about ADMs. It will also give a couple years to work out any bugs with the car.


Rumor is that this motor was pulling 10K on the engine dyno at Roush Racing? I know I read/heard it somewhere but can't remember where now. Either way, 8200 is the same number the F22 in my AP2 was pulling so adding 4 cylinders is going to make this thing sound wicked. I'm buying just because FPC and engine sound (and I'll be able to afford it). lol

Strange. Sounds worse than I thought, at least from the outside. With all the talk about the flat plane crank (i.e., similar to a Ferrari as all the Ford fanboys like to say), this thing sounds disappointing. It's ok from the inside and not that great on the drive-by vids.

On the plus side, it looks better than I thought, especially the GT350R. The large wing balances the rear end a bit, which always looked like it was drooping on the normal Mustangs.

I agree with you @DarkSunrise that the GT350R looks better.

It makes the new Mustang design much more tolerable by cleaning up that sagging rear end.

Yeah normally I hate this style of wing (looks like rice), but it works on the new Mustang for some reason.

Couple of thoughts. Audio in clips compared to real life just don't compare IMO so if it were me I would wait to hear it in person.


Secondly, I've seen some information that suggest the early version of this engine sounded phenomenal but changes were made in the production exhaust that "corked" it. No surprise there really due to all the regulations OEMs have to abide by. Long story short, after market is often the fix for these simple issues. Just look at how many people change their exhaust with the twins.
