Oil Cooler Set Up – DIY?

I stumbled across this parts website and was wondering which parts are needed to assemble to a complete BRZ/FRS Oil Cooler Kit for a NA Car?

I’m interested in the 19 Row Setrab Core and the Mocal Sandwich plate. Where I need help is figuring out is how many feet of hose I might need and which fittings are suggested if I am considering upgrading the intake in the future.

It looks like a decent kit could be assembled for around $525 in parts. I have looked at the other kits and I think I have most of the parts covered above.

Am I missing anything and which parts should I use for this DIY set up?

The maximal performance kit, we already did this work for you....just order it and save yourself the headache.

Two reasons I choose this route.

First, 19 vs 13 cooler. Second, still waiting on the track data feedback from your kit.

I'd rather buy once and get it right for my needs.

Where do you plan on mounting the cooler? Do you mind using push-on hose?

Wish i knew that, yesterday was about to piece together my own kit and i just pulled the trigger on the mishimoto cooler instead..

Plan on mounting center under bumper. I'm not familiar with the push-on hose? Pros and Cons?

It really depends on how you route the lines but if you route it out and around the bumper supports and into the middle you're looking at roughly 7.5' of line. If you route it down on the inside of the support you'd save a couple feet. It's really hard to explain without pics so sorry if it doesn't make sense.

As for the push on hose they're much easier to make than typical steel braided AN lines. You simply lube up the end of the AN fitting and slide the hose over the barbs. They're impossible to get off once they're on (trust me, I've tried) but some people argue they're not as secure as regular hose.

I'll shoot you a PM over with pricing now and we can work out the specifics there.

As noted by others, for the cost of all of these components, you can purchase a direct-fit kit with pre-assembled lines and a cooler mounting bracket. Our 19-row thermostatic kit comes in at around $585 from our vendors, and includes everything you need to bolt-on an oil cooler.

As a hose length comparison, we include a 36” and 50” stainless steel braided hose to route oil to the passenger side of the grille. If you locate the cooler on the driver’s side, you may be able to use slightly short lines.

If you would prefer the challenge of fabricating a bracket (sometimes a Saturday morning of welding/cutting can be therapeutic) and putting lines together, then a DIY setup may be the way to go, but you will likely end up around the same cost, if not more compared to our kit.

Whichever you select, I believe you will find great results in oil temperatures with a 19-row oil cooler.

We came to the same conclusion (especially at our new exchange rate here in commie land).
The hassle of saving a few pennies wasn't worth the convenience of the kit.


The kit is a jewel, was installed by BRZWORLD, works wonderfully -


HOWEVER, the last 2 kits sent to BRZWORLD were incomplete, missing necessary parts and had several extra unnecessary promo material (one yes but 6 identical plastic bags of promo material instead of necessary parts) ?


Some assembly line flunky was in a hurry to go home -


BUT - to be fair, MISHIMOTO quickly couriered the missing parts to BRZWORLD.


Impressed with the product, and service .

Why not get a JacksoN Racing kit, which includes a superior mounting solution and a 9 series core, instead of a 6 series core? Sure it costs a little more, but you also get a warranty, and is the only setup that is actually *track proven*.

I love the friendly differentiation from competitors in this. It really helps to decide which product will best fit our needs. I was thinking about doing the OEM Forrester setup, but after going FI, I am finding that I am spending too much time working on the car to save a few bucks and not much time driving the damn thing.

What size core would you consider verges on being excessive; one which could be partially covered to adjust the desired capacity?

whats the difference in the 6 and 9 series cores?
