Hey AT peeps, quick question. I read through the entire owner's manual and a few questions popped up. One of them being: is one able and is it safe to switch from auto mode to manual mode on the fly?
For example, I get bored of going 55-60mph on the highway and want to have fun with the paddles. Would I be able to switch from D to M? Many thanks! |

Yes, its safe. You can either change the shifter into Manual mode at any time then use the shifter or the paddles. You can also use the paddles anytime in any mode. I do this almost every time I drive the car, particularly for downshifting to pass.

Like the auto in this car. One of the best I've ever driven with (the GTR, SLS AMG And a few other super cars don't really count in my opinion, while other animal...).
However, I have a problem where sometimes my downshifts are very slow and sluggish and jerk the car. That's the best way I can describe it. Not the usual smooth downshift with rev match. The revs don't climb quickly and it's like the car doesn't want to downshift. I've noticed giving it gas and downshift when it does that fixes it, but that doesn't help much when I'm slowing to a stop. |

I've been driving my AT since 3 months. No regrets
1St good surprise: Because my previous car was dual clutch, I was a little worried about this torque converter being lazzy but hopefully not, THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE 2nd The "manual mode" allows quicker shifts than the MT. 3rd When necessary the D mode saves gas 4th Sport mode + paddles when you dont whant to manage the stick Resuming : More versatile car |

$You are right . i'm not saying the AT itself shifts faster but MY PERFORMANCE is faster managing the stick or the paddles with AT...I test drove an MT and felt myself slower with

lets say you are on the freeway in traffic and using paddles, is it bad (longevity wise) for the car if you go from 1st to 2nd then back to first when it really slows? i usually just let the car downshift to 1st (around 6mph) by itself.

I Perma drive in sport mode. Most of the time (in a 60kph zone) I'll cruise in 4th if there isn't much traffic or its far enough ahead otherwise stay in 3rd and use gear breaking to manage my distance to the car in front so I generally drive by feathering the throttle. Much like a manual would, I suppose.
When coming up to a stop I'll gear break down in 3rd to say 40 then 2nd and gently apply the brakes when coming to a full stop, but I never drop it to 1st. The 1st gear is really only used when pulling away from a complete stop, and if slowing down will rev the engine all look at me like, if traveling anything faster than 15kph. I let the car manage 1st.

It will lurch and jerk if you try to go to 1st at really low speeds. Let the AT do the downshift itself.
