How did you convince the dealer to sell you the car before the June 1st release date? The Scion rep and the dealer are telling me they cannot RDR (retail delivery request?) the car until June 1st. I'm fighting just to get my car on May 31st cause I'm going out of town that day!

I've never heard of a dealership that detailed the exterior without introducing more swirls in the paint.
They did it with a special wax or something, not sure what they used but I saw a good part of the cleaning process. It needed a wash badly, it had pollen and rain marks all over it from sitting in the port and ships. And if anything they made it 10x better looking, no swirls at all.

"Why'd you get a black one? That's going to be really hot in the summer."

I don't care, It's going to look cool all year round!

Congratulations, Dan! Raven is a great color.

I didn't have to convince anyone. They gave the keys to me as they promised they would the day it got there. The entire process from delivery via truck to me driving off the lot was probably 2 hours.

When I get home I will upload a few pics. I still have to install the Beat-Sonic antenna I bought for it which I will do tomorrow.

I, personally, would have taken the instant $5,000 profit and just waited a month or 2 for another unit. Heck, the wait might not even be that long...
Here's to hoping my dealer offers that option!
I have never had a new car. The meaning of this car means more to me than $5k. It would have been a longer wait to get another FR-S and I only had transportation via the free loaner they gave me until the FR-S came in. $5k would be cool but it's wasn't worth it to me. Plus they've been so courteous and went out of their way to make my experience terrific there. If I sold it I'd feel like I let them down and this community down. Also in several months there would be more FR-S' on the road. I wanted to be one of the first.

P.S.-- My FR-S has the same birthday as me. 4/14! I thought that was cool, I celebrate me and my car's bday from now on

I was so tempted to get a Raven FR-S and get my username on a custom plate for it. Still kinda bummed I didn't go that way, but I've always wanted a burnt orange sports car and I couldn't pass up the Hot Lava. Congrats on getting the car!

Congrats on the new car!

Though, $5k is a lot of money. I would have sold it. If the offer is still open to you I would think about how much having one of the first cars is really going to effect you versus having an extra $5k in your pocket. I don't think you would be letting anyone down by selling it, and the community's desires aren't your burdens to bear. I understand the excitement you feel right now, but it's easy to let that feeling overwhelm reason. If it's worth it to you to keep it, then do it, but don't do it for a bunch of nerdy forum-goers, do it for yourself.

I would take the $5K too and just order another car. That said, we don't know the OP's situation, some people may have already have sold their car.

You can rent a car for a looong time with 5K. Even if it's 3-4 weeks for the next one. But congrats anyway!

Congrats!

But gotta agree with the majority on this one, 5k is 5k, if you have a stable car now that can do the job while you wait, I would definitely wait. Also, the whole "being one of the first" would wear off after the first few months.

I was quick to jumping on a limited BRZ around here with a non-refundable $1000 deposit. I wanted to be the first to own one, but realized that the novelty would wear off, especially come october-november they would be more accessible.

My .02!

Enjoy man!

Nice job on becoming a new 86 owner. I'm sure you will enjoy the car every time you sit in it. I thought it was interesting that you picked up a Raven 6AT because they have one here at the dealership near me. I thought someone had already picked it up but hey you're another Floridian 86er so that's still cool I like how the auto has the paddle shifter but I could't drive auto again. I missed having manual. Enjoy it and be safe with it.
