I don't really drive my car hard with any traction nannys turned on, so I would never have noticed. Only time I get traction in DD mode is heavy rain...which with rs3 on their is a death trap

When VSC sensor neutral memorization is performed, the yaw rate and acceleration sensor and the steering sensor zero point calibration are performed at the same time.

(1)Turn the ignition switch off.(2)Check that the steering wheel is centered.(3)Check that the shift lever is in neutral.(4)Apply the parking brake by pulling up the parking brake lever.(5)Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.(6)Turn the ignition switch on.(7)Turn the Techstream on.(8)Enter the following menus: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRAC / Utility / VSC Sensor Neutral Memorization.(9)According to the display on the Techstream, perform VSC sensor neutral memorization.(10)Turn the ignition switch off and disconnect the Techstream.

The car doesn't monitor ride height. If anything was out of spec(steering angle?) it would trigger a DTC code. I'm skeptical this is the issue.

The yaw sensor would be sensitive to a change in rake, but not ride height (especially since there is no ride height sensor).

A change in rake would change how the yaw sensor "feels" yaw, but I'm skeptical that's the issue as well. You would need a pretty drastic change in rake for it to be enough difference at the sensor.

ive driven on a 1" drop and now a 2" drop and haven't had to "reset" any sensors. my vsc/traction control all work just the same as it did before when i was on stock suspension. does anyone have more info on this "vsc reset" process and when it's needed??

It's needed when you replace a sensor(or it gets out of wack) that the VSC system uses; steering angle sensor, yaw sensor, acceleration sensor, there might be others. The main one could be the steering angle sensor if it wasn't aligned correctly but then steering wheel would be off. AFAIK all of these will trigger DTC codes if they are out of spec.

Someone above posted the service manual procedure. Techstream is required to do the calibration.

i get that it's needed when replacing a sensor or it goes bad, but when/how does a suspension swap cause this? thats what confuses me...

If the rake isn't the same as it was on the stock suspension, the yaw sensor will be slightly out of whack. It has a set position for neutral, and if you alter the rake it doesn't have the right neutral point to sense yaw movement.

Like I said above, the rake change would have to be pretty substantial to notice it, but it is possible.

is there anyway to reseet this without a techstream tool?
I've seen a video on line for steering angle sensor reset but its for a different OBD pinout than on our cars

You need techstream. My eBay cable works just fine.

The request to reset the VSC is at the end of the TRD factory install instructions for their lowering springs.

Probably not. You can get knock off techstream cables (and software) on ebay for cheap.
