^ Sounds like modern F1, anytime any team creates something cool and innovative, the other teams go, oh no, we don't have that, ban it!

agreed. what that car did in its day will likely never be repeated. They pretty much took the road car, stripped it out, and WON lemans. beating out the prototype cars as well. Oh and it held the top speed record for something like 12 years straight.

titanium pushrods in the c5 z06. its like taking the oldest way of doing things and making it as modern as possible. I remember reading about it and I was amazed

I haven't seen it with my own eyes yet, but i think the future of camless engines will be what gives the combustion engine a few more years to live.

What's the coolest car tech you've seen?

While we are the subject of camless engines. The Multiair technology from Fiat is quite fascinating. I believe it is being used in the 500's and the Darts. Very cool stuff though.

I am surprised no one mentioned the floor-pan-manifold on Eclipses.

When there is danger to them...they fall off.

How about one item we have in our cars that I had never seen before?

Rod end caps are not cast & machined, they are sheared like a diamond cutter.

That is just outside the box

keyword: few

everything will soon be double clutch, electric, awd and ripping 10 sec quarter miles all day with 0 emissions and hardly ever breaking down as there are no moving parts aside from the transmission.

It will be a sad day

Also don't forget the EVO transmission that can pull all the way to 120mph in reverse.

lol says the guy with a GTR.

Still plenty of used cars out there and someday Toyobaru's will be cheap and plentiful along with plenty of other soon to be labeled 'obscene' machines, the only issue will be keeping them in good shape and finding affordable fuel for many decades to come.

And let's be honest, ripping around a track in a car like that will still be a hoot, it's not like we've got any replacement for rubber pneumatic tires on the horizon when it comes to performance so smoking tires will still bring joy to many.

At the risk of getting flamed, how about electric super chargers that actually work? Second tier automotive has grasped the concept and the OEMs are starting to play with different concepts of operation. Won't be long before we see them on production vehicles in some way, shape or form. I'm curious to see Who will try the first "series hybrid" turbo, where there are separate turbo-generator and motor-compressor units with no physical shaft in between. Complex, but lots of potential.

And yes, I've been watching the Phantom thread (and read the whole thing), driven a Phantom equipped car, and am on the waiting list...
