I have the OFT/OFH on 91 pump and after a couple weeks of driving I don't have the chirping anymore. It's kind of unusual to me, the OFH isn't known to stop the crickets, is it?

A few have said it does and just as many said no. Were you running 91 before? Running 91 with no ethanol works for me. I add some 93 with it and my little buddies get all happy and start to sing. I have become convinced they are quiet until drunk.

Always have run with 91-E10, I haven't tried looking for non-ethanol, it doesn't really bother me so much to look for it.

The rare occasions I coax them to life it is just sort of "oh there they are". Not bothered either really and certainly not the earth shattering experience some make it out to be.

Don't worry it isn't broke. How you drive it will have zero effect on the chirps.

I read sometime in the recent past that gas used may determine to some degree whether you have crickets or not. I'm pretty monogamous with my gas, but I thought I'd give a different brand a try...no harm in that, right? So I went to a Shell station that's about 20 minutes out of my way and got a tank full of V-power 93, and as of my second fillup, crickets are GONE. I was shocked. Pleased, but shocked. 10,xxx miles, btw. Suffice it to say, I'll be going there for gas from now on. Sorry to all the folks that don't have access to anything better than 91.
Edit: crickets are back. FML. Last edited by FR-S.13; 05-07-2015 at 05:25 AM. |

Also, just bought a Tomei UEL header from ft86speedfactory but keeping the rest of the exhaust system stock. Here's to hope that either the OFT eliminates the sound or the louder exhaust covers it up..

I am pretty sure the crickets have internet access and as soon as people post here that they don't have them you get put on a list for immediate attention.

I work at subaru and i LOL every time i see one of these threads pop back up, there is no known cure yet. It's not detrimental to your engine, however annoying the sound is, so just crank your stereo and let it be for now. As soon as a fix is out there I will be the first to blast it all over the forums, believe me.
P.S there are many temporary fixes for it and some people never get the issue however i believe those people dont drive hard at all. mine only started after my first canyon run after 1k miles when i broke the 5k rpm mark. Swapping out gas to get different ethanol ratings is one of the most common fixes but honestly too costly in the long run for a problem that causes no damage to your engine.

Just out of curiosity, in what capacity do you work for Subaru?
