Glad you are ok and well. and I am hella impressed that the FRS was t-boned by a bmw 5 series and the 5 series looks more damage than the FRS

Glad you're ok and that the car protected you well. The door hinge area is typically a stronger part of the frame/body which is probably why it looks like so little damage. But I would bet because it hit there it's gonna be totaled but at least it helped prevent you from from being injured.

Car is fixable! Insurance contacted me today and told me it's fully covered. $7,700 at the end of the day, but it's all coming out of the guy who hit me. Any other fees will also come through him.

Probably the best day of the last two weeks by far.

Congratulations. Your car will be happy. It saved you and you're saving it.
I will be a special feeling when you hit the road again, like brothers in arms.

That's awesome, I'm surprised it wasn't totalled but this is one of those times I'm happy to have been wrong.

Man this all just keeps getting better and better.

Car tear down showed decent damage as expected, but the more they open up the more damage they find. So far there's been an additional $6K worth of damage to be added to the total and it might be worse the more they uncover.

I hear back either today or tomorrow that the car will be covered for repairs by my insurance or not since the new estimate is much higher.

at this point, your insurance company will probably tally up all the estimated costs to repair and restore the car (once all inspection is done). at $13k in damage already, i feel like there's a high chance they might consider the car totaled you can still "buy" the car back from them after they cut a check to you, but it'll be a salvage title. this is of course IF they total it. if not then they'll just go after the other insurance company to make them cover the additional costs. you shouldn't have to pay anything out of pocket.

And don't sign or settle for anything yet. A couple of months from now you might develop some strange pain(s) which might not show up now and if you sign or settle, you're screwed. Talk to your insurance agent about it, maybe a lawyer if you know one who could give you some free info.

Yeah, this entire business has been downright shitty in trying to deal with insurance. I'm at the point where I'm just assuming the car is totaled. I hate to say it but I'm already looking around for other options.

Insurance companies are soul-less profit machines, and will screw you without blinking an eye if given the opportunity. You may want to call a lawyer just for a consultation to make sure you aren't getting fucked: most lawyers will do a free consultation.
