Hell Of A Saturday Morning

Hey guys, let me preface this with the fact that I walked away completed unscathed or uninjured after being tboned at 50+ mph. This car is incredible, and I'm really hoping it can be fixed. Still waiting to hear back from my Claim's Adjuster to see my 10 Series can be saved or not. Luckily the frame doesn't seem damaged upon inspection, but taking apart everything will prove if it is or isn't.

Anyway, Saturday morning at 1 Am, as I was headed to the gym, I was T-Boned by a guy in Torrance, who was running from the police and driving toward a hospital with his gunshot wound victim. Guy ran a red light at the intersection of Carson and Hawthorne, where you can't really see far to the left from my approach, and slammed into me going faster than 50 mph. He tried to take off, but his black BMW was so damaged from the crash that it couldn't move five feet after being spun around and having parts torn off.

For me, the hit was instant. I blinked after going through a green light and BAM my car was hit, window and driver seat airbags deployed as my window exploded, and I slammed on the brakes and held the wheel to keep the car straight. Immediately after, the guy got out of his car, police flooded the intersection, and he had a standoff with the cops for a good 15-20 minutes with a gun pointed at them and all of Torrance PD pointing their own in his direction.

You can read more about it in the articles I attached, but believe it or not I walked away with no aches or cuts. I've been in hit and runs before, cars getting flipped etc, and needless to say this is both the safest and most fun car I've ever been in. I feel like if I was in anything else, I would have been seriously fucked up.

Just thought I'd share my story with you guys on what happened, how safe the car is, and I'll keep everyone updated on the status of the vehicle.

Wow, that car just saved your life! Now it's time to return the favour and try and keep it on the road and prevent it from being scrapped.
Thank god you walked away unscratched.

gramicci101 04-01-2015 11:32 AM

That is incredible. That's not even a lot of damage for a T-bone at 50+ mph.

Keep an eye on how you feel. Just because you were good at the time doesn't mean that you won't feel it a week or two later.

wow. im surprised i didnt hear about this. i was driving to my gfs house right down the street from this. hope you are able to work everything out!

edit* wow! i didnt know this was the bowling accident. i was in that area too when the shooting happened. crazy.

I would think that a 50+mph collision hit would cause this light car to wrap around the BMW's front end.

Then again, who knows what kind of stresses the frame was subjected to that isn't at all visible.

Hope you get her back repaired, and if not, hope you'll get enough back from insurance to easily purchase another one.

Are YOU okay? Any lingering pain?

holyshit! just read the article and watched the short video clip too. damn i used to live about 2 miles from there and would go eat at that plaza all the time.

glad to hear you came out ok. i recommend still going for a check up after a couple of days as sometimes you don't feel the effects immediately after an accident like that. man that sucks.

Lonewolf 04-01-2015 12:52 PM

Wow, the car seemed to hold up well...that's good news, and you seem okay, which is great news!

I hope all the stuff you have to deal with now will at least get you some extra goodies...

Tcoat 04-01-2015 01:09 PM

Glad you are good and hope they can save the car!
But...
If they can't save it at least it went out like a scene from an action movie and you get the great story to tell.

I pass by that street all the time. Glad to know the twins' 5-star safety rating holds true.

No1der 04-01-2015 01:29 PM

You should see a doctor though. Hope everything works out for the best
