Starting to get cold feet re my deposit. I have one longer test drive coming on an MT to make up my mind, plan to do a highway drive to check power is adequate (hopefully without my 250-lb salesman on board! ).
I have a feeling the manual will wow you better. I'm starting to jump on the manual transmission bandwagon now. But if this car was a 2.5l 4 cylinder or bigger it would be a different story.

That was like reading an FRS comic book! Great info and well done, thank you for putting in the time to do all of that. I am a little confused though, so the 17's with sticky tires posted the best lap times and had the best feedback yet he would go with 18's for time attack? Why?

Here is the summary of all the results. These can help understand why Tsuchiya chose 18" for circuit attack and 17" for gymkhana.

1. Circuit time attack
Stock 86: 1'46"071
Stock 86 w/ 17" 215: 1'43"136
Stock 86 w/ 18" 235: 1'42"984 <- best
=> Tsuchiya said I conclude that 18" is better for time attack and 17" is for balanced driving.....since there was a bit under-steering w/ 18".

2. 0-400m attack
Stock 86 w/ 18" 235: 14"855
TRD w/ 18" 225: 14"615 <- best
HKS(AT) w/ 18" 225: 15"953

3. Gymkhana
Stock 86 w/ 17" 235: 52"528 <- best
TRD w/ 18" 225: 52"668
HKS(AT) w/ 18" 225: 52"630
# I guess this result truly depended on the drivers' skill difference....

4. Battle in the circuit
1st: TRD (best lap: 1'42"802@lap 3)
2nd: Stock 86 w/ 18" (best lap: 1'43"439@lap 3)
3rd: HKS(AT) (best lap: 1'44"183@lap 3)

Basically these tests means that the stock car is fine, just need better tyres, 17" or 18" is almost the same for the common driver.

I'd like to hear some comment about the steering feel with 17" and 18".

Im wondering if Tsuchiya would have done better if he went with slightly narrower 225 18's like on the TRD instead of the 235 18's he was using.....

Thank you so much Yajin for taking the time to do this! I saw the video previously but to finally understand everything that was being said was extremely informative.
