Attempting to make this intake out of carbon fiber would be rediculous. Unless its wet carbon fiber.

thats just obscene. I could see a thermoplastic, like an FRP. Titanium would be too expensive, a mixture of aluminum and carbon alloys might be a good spring board idea

I didn't know palm trees produced dates, that's interesting. I thought they just came from grocery stores.

Might not be too bad with dissolving cores. But then you need moulds for the cores, too.

As for wet layup being unsuitable, only if it's improperly done. Prepreg just gives a better fiber:resin ratio. With wet layup it would need to be properly pressure/vacuum cured and reinforced a bit more. Would end up a bit heavier than prepreg, but still light.

Im sure it could be renforced enough to hold up to the kPa but the cost would be roughly the same as a turbo kit

I don't understand why people think carbon is inherently expensive. Carbon as a material is relatively cheap, especially for a part so small. They can make carbon fiber bicycle frames that weight under 2 pounds that can withstand the force of a 200 pound man producing 2000 watts of flexion for around $300. The cost comes in R&D just like anything else. Carbon car parts are so expensive because people are willing to pay $$$ for it.

As dimman eluded to, you just have to know what the hell you're doing.

We looked into carbon about 4-5 months ago. It was going to price us out of the market, and not because of a "carbon tax", but because of the expense involved.

I've been promised to have the remaining pieces in my hand by Saturday. Whether that happens or not is out of my control.

Prototypes always seem to take about 3x's longer than anticipated. We apologize for the delay but updates are on there way.
