autos aren't autos any more...

The stigma created against automatics were when they were solely that, AUTOMATICS...

since manual mode was created and paddle shifters on most autos, they are no longer the same autos that became stigmatized in that era...

Shifting in an auto is now faster, smoother and more predictable than a manual will ever be.

The only thing still fueling the manual/auto hate is nostalgia...

I get your point.

IMO the feeling of shifting gears cant be compared to the paddle shifters, but thats just me...

On that point you're absolutely right. The Feel of shifting non sequentially cannot be replaced with sequential shifters, but then you're not arguing manual vs. auto, you're arguing nonsequential vs. sequential..

It's much more than gated versus sequential.

What if it still had a clutch? I could get with that no matter how much power.

There's becoming less and less difference every day. Many dog engagement sequentials can use either a clutch or a torque converter. If they use a torque converter are they no longer manuals???

It becomes a manual-matic or smg semi-manual gearbox

I had a supercharged pontiac grand prix with paddle shifters. Used them once. Zzzzzz. Wife's focus, which I drove daily for 6 months, also has paddle shifters. Also used them once.

Considering I've owned 4 mt cars and prefer shifting myself, I think it says something that I've never even bothered with the faux manual. It's not the same, not even close.

Sports cars are meant to be manual transmission cars, end of story. It's perfectly understandable to want AT for various reasons, and it's fine if that's your preference. I just wish AT owners would drop the attitude and stop acting like we're the weird ones.

Im honestly shocked this is an issue, I would have assumed the AT owners would be the ones getting talked down to constantly, but from what I've seen it's the opposite.

Really?

Tell that to Lamborghini, Bugatti, Ferrari etc.. Lol end of story. Lol

Auto are the ones getting talked down to. People aren't talking down about manuals just saying that the stigma and reasoning for that talking down largely doesn't exist anymore..:p

Jaden

Also those cars you're referring to aren't sports cars. Go drive an auto ss camaro with paddle shifters or an auto corvette and get back to me.

.
I would simply attribute that to the fact that most of the people buying lambos and ferraris are just rich old bastards with too much money lol, but I wouldn't really know. Afraid I don't rub elbows with too many supercar owners. I know the cars I mentioned aren't sports cars, although the pontiac was close to 300hp, but the point is that I got no gratification from shifting with that method. It's not fun and its especially awkward when you're turning the wheel while trying to shift.

I consider the repetitive references to the 70s and 80s and claims that manual won't exist in 5 years to be "talking down to". Maybe I'm just being too thin skinned.

If manual does get phased out, I'll just stop buying sports cars and get a sedan.
