My advice would be to test-drive a manual.
I've driven both and prefer the manual (esp in a sports car), but only you can decide ultimately.

Where you live and what you use your car for should dictate what transmission you use.
If I lived in LA and the BRZ was my daily, there would be no way I'd drive a manual.

Don't you ever drive it for fun though? Like on the weekends? I drive my manual in traffic it's not that bad lol I had an automatic FR-S before the manual and it was too boring. I mean for a car that is all about the direct driving experience blah blah blah why would you want a slush box and be disconnected from the drive wheels? Defeats the purpose in my opinion inb4 AT army attacks |

Totally disagree.
My stage 3 clutch and LA traffic did not equal a fun drive. 20 minutes in gridlock and I was through with driving. Considered getting a bicycle.

20 minutes in LA gridlock with a stage 3 clutch? Yeah, thats plenty. (My BRZ doesn't have a stage 3 clutch. My supercharged Scion tC did)

He's talking about the ring and pinion gears in the differential. They're what takes the rotational motion from the driveshaft and turn it 90 degrees to have rotational motion at the wheels. He's specifically talking about the ratio between the pinion and the ring gears. You'll see this referred to as 3.73, 4.10, 4.56, etc... What that means is 3.73:1, where the pinion gear turns 3.73 times for each time the ring gear turns once.
The "final drive" ratio is 6th gear in the transmission combined with the ring and pinion ratio in the differential. |

Hey, now. It's not that bad. I've driven MT since I got my permit back when I was 15 and I grew up in LA. At one point, my little Civic EX and I were doing at least 100 miles a day in my late teens. I'm still driving stick to this day in my BRZ. It's just about your tolerance for those things. Regular running or exercise helps keep those sore legs from developing in heavy traffic.
