I think it may have been the 370z for me.

I'd still be riding my Kawasaki on the twisty roads.

Would you guys all really be driving the much more expensive cars if the Twins didn't exist? Question isn't "what would you like instead". Seems like a lot have money to burn all of a sudden.

For me it would be a Genesis 3.8 GT (actually had one ordered before stumbling across the FRS)

Surprised I didn't respond to this before; RX-8

Literally the only other affordable lightweight RWD coupe built within the last 5 years.

Assuming I liked the test drive, the convenience of new kept me from seriously pursuing the RX and I could afford the new car.

Exactly. I did consider a couple of used Z4 BMWs, but could not have afforded a new one. Still, 27k would have gotten me a fairly recent model. In the end, I decided that at 59 years old and at 6'1", it was too hard to get out of the Z4. Besides, I love my FR-S!

I also looked at the Mazda Miata, but there are just too many of them on the road and I didn't like the safety issues that come with convertibles. After seeing the recently posted crash photos of the FR-S getting T-boned, I am sure now I made the right choice.

TBH at the time I purchased the FR-S it had come down to it or a used Cayman S.
I had gotten screwed out of the Cayman S I wanted after an exhausting search and decided I would save $15k, get a brand new car, and get something that drives just like a Cayman S.
That's the honest truth of what happened for me.

Probably, lol. The most I was willing to go was 35. I'm not married, just graduated college, got an awesome job. I think a lot of people here are in similar boats. Just turned out the 86 was right for me after driving other things.

Oh, no doubt there are many that would but by reading through this thread if the 86 didn't exist C7 and Nismo sales would be tripled! Just seems weird that a bunch of guys that have one of the most affordable cars out right now all of a sudden would have had cars twice the price if it didn't exist.
Now, if a lot of the guys mean a used XXX then it makes sense.

I find it interesting how the majority answered with brand new cars, most of which have nothing at all in common with the FRS/BRZ. Very few of you seem to really know what you want........... or just buying based on looks....

If the FRS didn't exist, I probably wouldn't have gone with any "sports car" really, would have bought something economical. However, now that I've driven the FRS and have been bitten by the sports car bug, I am starting to crunch some numbers on either a newer (still used) Corvette, Cayman or a Miata with an LSx... The FRS didn't really come down to the money, more from a boyhood dream of owning one at some point when I had the means. Now that I have it, I love everything about it, except I wish it had a few more creature comforts, and 2 of the 3 cars I previously mentioned have them.

Oh no, I understand. I get the same feeling when I see people saying yeah, I was looking at a 911 and cayman, m4 , etc.
