As long as the CVT could hold 300 hp reliably, had launch control, and had a sport button that would make it hold the RPM at max torque, I'd be fine with it. They could even have paddles to shift between set ratios, as well.

Wife's RVR has paddles with the CVT. They don't help much. (Know I am talking apples to watermelons here though)

I would like to see an actual racing CVT though. That would be impressive. I imagine always staying right in the power band at any speed and never having to shift would improve lap times a fair amount.

When will they get that some of us don't want to do $10-15K in aftermarket upgrades on a $25K car? That is money down the drain if you want to sell the car.

On the other hand, a car that comes with factory-developed upgrades at a $10-$15K higher price will still be worth more in resale after a couple years than a brand new base model.

I realize this doesn't matter in Japan, where cars are practically worthless after 50K miles, but it matters here. If you want to play in the sports car market, offering multiple versions is a requirement for success. And those versions need to come with power increases, not just plastic body kits.

The WRX has a CVT with 6-speed and 8-speed paddle shift modes.

True, one loses nearly all modification money when selling a modified car. That's why the smart folks return to stock form and sell the aftermarket parts separate, keeps total depreciation much more in line with what one would expect from a factory hot version.

Right. But people who are dropping $40K+ for a car often don't want to build and unbuild their car. I have that kind of money, but I don't want to go buying, building, then dismantling and selling a bunch of crap. It's ridiculous.

Imagine if Porsche made the GT3 available as a collection of aftermarket parts. It's a joke of a business model in this day and age.

The other reason it's dumb is because the OEM can save the cost of the original parts that they are replacing, and get discounts on the hardware in volume. Other companies make a lot of profit on uprated versions of their cars.

Anyway, whatever. It's Toyota/Subaru's car. They can do what they want with it.

Since it uses the stuff from the GT300 BRZ pretty sure they probably carry most of the stuff over there onto the concept.

Looks pretty cool, I imagine if it were to make it into production it would be north of 50K.
