Hell, I'd even guess most of it isn't true.... Until I hear it from Toyota, I'm very sceptic.

Personally it would be better as a Toyota plus it will help the Toyota image a little. IMO at least!

I'd rather have the Toyota badge on it. But, it better come in more interior colors than beige.

The only benefit I see would be low production numbers; its a fact that Toyota limits the numbers of Scions that are build to keep the brand from getting played out.

Hopefully, Modellista makes it way to US spec FT-86 for those who want a fashionable interior.

I had two of the 18" Enkei wheels bend on a track days (two different wheels on two separate occasions--and no, I didn't have any off road excursions), I don't have the front strut tower bar on the car anymore (still have it in the garage, but it was doing as much good under the hood as it is on the shelf) and the special battery tie down was the same one AEM was giving away for free with cold air intakes.

I just want to have a de-contented version to save weight and allow me to modify it how I want--I don't want ground effects, stereo options or special badges that are part of the typical RS make up. Scion did offer the Spec Package that was stripped down, so while it is possible they would offer a Spec Package FT-86, I think the chances of getting what I really want are better if this comes out as a Toyota and they allow people to buy a stripped version.

What car in Toyota's line up has that option currently? You bought an RS which is basically a tC with options already added to it, and yet you complain that it had options on it already? You know, you ARE allowed to change them right.. Hell you could have just bought a standard tC like I did, and made it your own....like everyone does.

I sure hope it comes out as a Scion. That would be icing on the cake.

I am just hoping that the FT would push the RS models in a performance direction, versus the typical Scion glitter without purpose (2011 RS xD is "Espresso Brown" with a lip kit and the Carbon Fiber b-pillar stickers).

The FT may be just the first step of where Toyota wants the Scion marque to move to. We'll still have the 'march of a different drummer' volume units, but with 1 model to broaden the line and appeal to those that are interested in performance, or even the "odd" styling of the FT.

Keep in mind that anyone "serious" about performance out of their tC....don't look to factory options for that. The tC owners looking for respectable performance gains, go to the Aftermarket Scion gurus like PTuning and World Racing..etc. Not TRD accessories or think that the RS models were performance upgrades.

There are tons of "performance" Scion enthusiast. Not all are into neons, body kits, and audio systems, nor give 2cents about Scion's marketing commercials.

I know what you're trying to put out, but is FT-86 really the car Scion should embrace? I don't think so. You can buy number from anywhere if I'm not mistaken about what you have said, but there are more important factors than a mere 1000hp.

This is the way I see it. After watching this months DSport DVD and listening to the President of Scion talk about having a RWD car in the Scion lineup....it makes ALL the sense to have the FT-86 in the Scion Lineup. He was expressing that they are trying to listen to the "enthusiast" as well, and this is what the enthusiast side really wants. There are very few RWD 2-door coupes on the market. The Scion brand (unlike the Toyota brand) has a cult following of "Tuner enthusiast" already built up in it (i.e. Scion tC enthusiast). He has a hunch that the Scion enthusiast have the tenacity and urge to want to step up a little more in the price bracket (as he discussed and recognized that the Scion brand has always had a sub $20k price point). He feels that even though they have had this price point, there are the Scion enthusiast that wouldn't mind stepping up a couple of $K to get that RWD coupe.

I think he's right. tC owners spends $k's of dollars on mods to make their tC's go fast or ride low and slow. Since they are more than likely phasing out the tC, the FT-86 would make a great replacement and there would be tC owners trading up to the FT-86.

Except for me, mine will be paid off next year and I'll have both cars...LOL. That is if they don't screw up the design between now and release. If they screw up the design then I'll just go get me another 350z. That's still an option for me right now. FT-86 targeted price is $25k. I can get a Built motor and Twin turbo 350z making 600+whp for $25k private party sales. Decisions....Decisions...

That's was what I was asking from Toyota for years too. Hopefully, they keep both brands' fanatics happy. It's not like fighting everyone for the car that is badge as Scion or Toyota, Subaru is also alternative choice.

Rationally, Scion branding serves a small Scion enthusiast market. Toyota branding has a chance to bring back Toyota enthusiasts that have moved over to other brands or hung on to old Toyota performance products, like myself. Especially ones that are actively turned off by the Scion enthusiast community. Also like myself. If the FT/R-86/S fails to impress (God forbid) I will be probably looking towards a 370Z, pending the payment difference.

It's like asking the Supra, MR-2, Celica former owner what they drive now. Even if they make Supra right now, it won't help as much as FT-86 does because it will be expensive or even overpriced.
Just look at what Hyundai have done to their pathetic Gen Coupe. At least, it brings sport image to the brand by adding everyone-can-afford car.

Add: I don't think Toyota will give up making sport car when I see new Seinna SE and Camry SE. What they need now is a ball.

Yeah, and even if they are making enough money to buy a Z for example, there is something to be said about brand loyalty. I would rather own a less expensive, lower performance Toyota than a Z. I will still feel a bit guilty if I do end up going Z.

And I just can't even imagine the buying experience going into a Scion dealer to look at this car. (They're not even calling them 'dealers' in the current new-to-Canada radio marketing blitz.) As may have been guessed, I'm not exactly in Scion's age demographic...
