Better as a Scion?
 

While overall, I'd prefer it to be a Toyota, bringing it in as a Scion might have some pluses (for those not hung up on badging issues :D):

- it would tend to keep the price down as Toyota could not venture too far from Scion's target-market demographic - the budget-conscious youth(ful) shopper;

- for the same reason, it would likely be quite a "stripper" model in its base configuration, which would be great for those wanting to do custom modifications;

- option choices may be more customizable (a la tC) than is typical for a Toyota where you tend to get locked into choosing between a few option packages/trim levels (at least here in Canada).

hhmmm.... i don't think it is better as a scion, but! ill take it anyways. still i would like to see the subaru version to make a final decision on one or the other.

I don´t care, because there are no scions in Germany, so I don´t think it´s going to be a scion.

99,9% it´s going to be a toyota and if not, there is still the subaru option :)

Maybe I am going to export some EUDM FT-86 Toyotas to the States if it´s going to be USDM Scions and the rest of the world toyotas :D

The benefits above make sense. Also, Scion releases a "Release Series" special edition for all models each year. It's a randomly added package that have a limited edition color (burnt penny copper on the original xB, electric wasabi on the xD, pearl finishes on the tC), equipment (aero kits, TRD add-ons, added electronics), etc. In this case, we'll definitely see different iterations of the FT with (hopefully) performance tweaks. Possibly something similar to the Mazda "Shinka" program with the RX-8.

Only time will tell though...

I don't really care if it's a Scion or Toyota, if it looks as sharp as the concept I'll be de-tagging it anyways.

The RS thing is lame. I have an RS1 tC and the only reason I bought that was because it was on the lot and it was red. Fortunately I didn't have to pay extra for my RS1. The only RS that was worth anything extra was the RS5 tC since it had the StopTech sourced TRD brake kit--which I want for mine. I had two of the 18" Enkei wheels bend on a track days (two different wheels on two separate occasions--and no, I didn't have any off road excursions), I don't have the front strut tower bar on the car anymore (still have it in the garage, but it was doing as much good under the hood as it is on the shelf) and the special battery tie down was the same one AEM was giving away for free with cold air intakes.

I just want to have a de-contented version to save weight and allow me to modify it how I want--I don't want ground effects, stereo options or special badges that are part of the typical RS make up. Scion did offer the Spec Package that was stripped down, so while it is possible they would offer a Spec Package FT-86, I think the chances of getting what I really want are better if this comes out as a Toyota and they allow people to buy a stripped version.

If it's a Scion, we know exactly two things:

1. Fixed price.
2. No factory options. (Only dealer installed.)

Sounds appealing to me. However, "2" may bode ill for LSD availability.

Scion to Toyota is like Geo to Chevy! Trust me, there absolutely no benefits with this car being a Scion.

Why Haggle?

The RS currently offered are more inline with giving a unique look and fulfilling the "all scions are personalized" ideology. Each of the original Scions were never aimed to be sports cars, so the modifications done were minor and eye catching. The Black RS tC was the only one that pushed in that direction, but it's still at tC in the end. I am just hoping that the FT would push the RS models in a performance direction, versus the typical Scion glitter without purpose (2011 RS xD is "Espresso Brown" with a lip kit and the Carbon Fiber b-pillar stickers).

The FT may be just the first step of where Toyota wants the Scion marque to move to. We'll still have the 'march of a different drummer' volume units, but with 1 model to broaden the line and appeal to those that are interested in performance, or even the "odd" styling of the FT.

I still think Toyota could use the FT more than Scion. Scion hasn't appealed to nearly as many people over the years (oops) as Toyota has, and they could use some "Freshening" up. Toyota has a long history of some pretty kick ass Performance cars. Scion... not so much. Scion was great when they first launched. They were very quirky and unique, and filled a market segment that was missing. Now they are trying to push Scion into Toyota territory (IMO) and thats just wrong (IMO).

Scion should get back to quirky and unique cars. They actually made money that way.

I hope its a Scion. I have a Scion XB already, so yeah
