why does this thread keep getting Necro'ed? SlowButFun brought it back early last month, and now it got bumped again. Some of the posts people are responding to are very much old.

the frs isn't slow I'm so sick of hearing this....it's all about the twisties!!! I mean you do realize it's 200x faster than a horse right? So we can all pretend that our cars are somehow rocket ships because even though they are slower than 80% of the cars out there they're faster than a damn animal.

There have been several valiant attempts at killing it but it just keeps coming back!
Shit now I have added to the issue.

Ah yes, all about the twisties

If someone wants to autox, then you can't go wrong with this car. However once they get into track events on actual race tracks they're gonna wish they had more power.

Not if they are racing in their own class or at least comparing themselves to other cars in their own class.

Is the FR-S even doing that well in autocross? Last I heard, it wasn't performing as well as people hoped it would.

not bad as people like to allude to. Definitely not the Over Dog like people hoped though.

9 out of the top 16 were either a brz or a FR-S

The relevance of your statement is VERY track dependent. I would also remind everyone that the "more power needed" doesn't have to mean forced induction. A bolt on E85 setup is transformational at the track.

Eh, if you're just getting started there's good motivation to get your shit together as a driver, I've passed quite a few cars on track (Laguna Seca, Thunder Hill) with 50-100+% more power than the little Toyobaru: Porsche's and STI's and M's and Mustang GT's and LSx's even on a totally stock setup.

Those passes were all a consequence of a not-so-novice driver in a beginner's and intermediate's group but I know there's still a good 3 or 4 seconds that I can hunt down not to mention building consistency.

No question if I was in any of those cars I'd blow by my Toyobaru the second we hit the straightaway and I'd manage the corners well enough to not get left in the dust, but it's not like the Toyobaru is unworthy of sharing the track with cars 2x-5x the price.

I found this thread on the new posts page, and I realized that this thread died years ago just a few minutes after i posted. Still, I hope my point gets across to some people, because it is still relevant.

Yeah, because twins owners qq'd so hard they bullied the 370z out of their field. the vast majority of cs is now twins, so that doesn't say much. New car competing against 7-8 year old cars, rah!

You realize that there's not many cars left worthwhile in that class?

I see Miata/RX8/BRZ/FRS. Honestly, I would expect all of these cars to do relatively similar to each other just based on their specs and handling. What other cars are in the same class that didn't place? Also, what cars are in the class right above? I don't really follow autocross, nor know much about it... things like the S2000/RX7/Evo/etc. are classed 1 or 2 classes above, right?

Yeah, the s2000 is pretty good in bs and the fd rx7 is in as and the evo is in bs.

The classes aren't strictly by speed though, as the twins may not be competetive in ds against all the wrx's.
