Is there any reason why i shouldn't go with something like this?

There are plenty of universal kits out there. I can make my own brackets no problem. My only question really comes down to is there really a difference in the cores...
Great question here! Universal kits are great for those who don't mind putting in a bit of work to add a component to their vehicle. Additionally, for highly modified vehicles, sometimes a DIY setup is necessary because direct-fit units will no longer fit.

The primary component this particular kit (referenced above) is missing is the sandwich plate spacer and oil filter cup.

These components will raise the sandwich plate above the stock filter cup for appropriate fitment. I am unaware of any way around this. Most customers do not have means to machine a setup such as this so purchasing a direct-fit setup is necessary. If you can create this yourself, I certainly see no reason why a universal kit won't work for you. I imagine the rest of the fabrication needed (bracket, line length adjustment) would also be possible for you.

As far as a difference in quality, this is a question members of the forum may be able to answer. We do not have any experience with the kit referenced, only our products. We are very confident in the quality of our components and because of this we are able to offer a lifetime warranty. Additionally, our products have endured extensive testing to ensure longevity and efficient operation. We have numerous pleased customers throughout the 86 community running our kit on both NA and FI vehicles

Either way, the choice is entirely yours. In addition to our direct-fit kits we do offer universal oil cooler setups which will also include the necessary components for install. If you wanted to go down that route, we can certainly set you up with a kit.

Let me know if we can answer any specific questions about our kit!

Thanks
