previous vehicle lasted 80k+. the one before that I had for about 50k.

with these lower torque engines i tend to wind em up a bit to get em moving from a stop light/sign then settle into cruising speed. around town 4th or 5th fits that speed. youve gotta wait an extra second for the rpms in 2nd @ 5k to drop down slow enough to match that speed in 5th gear.

Skipping gears doesn't cause any excess wear. In fact, Chevys have had a second gear lock out forever. It forces you to shift to 4th if you rev too high in first under light throttle instead of letting you into second. Most people disable the system though.

If you're going under 17mph, and at <20% throttle, when you clutch in from 1st gear, it will lock-out second and third gear. Annoying, but it's how they defeat gas guzzler tax on the fifth gen manual SS Camaro, and how they advertise 17mpg in the city on the Vette. Thank goodness it's easy to disable with a $20 plug in.

I absolutely hated it on my SS... lol

??? Are you suggesting that you will cause excess wear on your transmission if you don't go in order? Lol.
