Yeah, I understand. I was told I drive too close and I guess I was too stubborn and now this happened. You can never be too careful, but even if you are careful, there are always other drivers who aren't.

It sucks that it took an accident as bad as this for me to realize. But reality and truth hurts.

I'll be more careful now, but I really pray that it gets fixed up quick and up to normal again. Meaning paint match and repaired like it was new.

Sorry you had to go through this. That looks hellish but it looks worse than it is. They'll fix that up no problem.

Also, for future reference, one car length for every 10 mph!

I don't mean to sound like a jerk, I really don't. I am sorry this has happened to your car. But this is exactly the reason that every defensive driving course along with drivers ed courses will tell you to stay 1 car length away per every 10mph. No reason to tailgate someone like that above 5mph.

Definitely no offense taken. I actually appreciate all your comments about it. It's better to hear the hard truth in my opinion than to have your hands held the whole time.

Thanks guys.

I'm sure we are all guilty of following too close sometimes. This thread should be an important reminder for everyone to stay a safe driving distance from others. (even though most people would take that opportunity to squeeze right in and cut you off)

I'm certain you'd be able to get the car back in pristine condition. Good to do your research on your body shops! Pics when all is said and done.

My insurance adjuster will check out my car tomorrow morning. He's going to let me know the extent of the damage. Hopefully not too bad and hopefully I can choose a shop that I've been looking at for a couple days now.

Hahaha 2 car lengths. You know what that means around here? There's room for two cabs and a livery car to squeeze in.

No airbag. Didn't hit any major impact areas so as to why it probably didn't go off.

UPDATE: My insurance adjuster just got back to me and it was terrible.

The total cost of damage (estimation) was $9,600.

basically, 1/3 of what I paid for. Jesus.

Does that effectively mean the car is totaled? Dang, that sucks man.

I just bought a new 2014 a couple weeks ago (pretty good deal). I let my dad drive it for a short stint, with me following in his WRX. A large ford pickup nearly t-boned him as he was driving down a narrow driveway. I was helpless to watch from behind, even though I had a better vantage down the hill and could see what was coming. Thankfully my dad was driving slow, respecting my new car, so he quickly braked. If he had been driving even normal speed, the front end would be crunched. Pickup didn't even look left till he was already out in front of my Dad, where his face then gaped and he shook his head, etc.

Sorry about your car.

Unfortunately (fortunately?), it does not mean it's totaled. Here in NY, it has to be 75% of what they would value my car. However, that $9,600....i'm thinking in my head....with that much repair....why not just total it. Jesus.
