I will tell you, I'm usually about 2 seconds back from the Jason Ruggles David Marcus group. They were on RS3s and I was on RE71s and I finished the tour .2 back from Marcus.

Confidence was huge as I knew I could hold it in transitions and it would stick.

Although, it pretty much says the same thing as all the other data: All the tires are very good this year, and it doesn't seem there is a clear cut "the tire" this year (at least not yet).
I think you need to take Tire Rack's testing with a grain of salt.

Good to know.

Jason said he drove someone's car on the stones (was that yours?) and described them as "magical".

If I needed tires right now I would go ahead and get the RE71Rs (I LOVED the RE01R when it was new). If you don't really need tires yet, I'd wait for the Rival S and new Toyo to become available.

It was. Jason is a friend. He was blown away. Ran about .7 quicker on the test track.

The Rival-S should be available next week, but since BFG officially announced the tires the other day, there are some reviews from a few national level autocrossers who had a chance to test them at Lincoln last year.

The common opinion is this will be the fastest street tire, period.

It's also starting us down the road of a softer compound and faster wearing street tire.

For reference, Dietz claimed he raw timed his STR S2000 West course time in a BS S2000 during the BFG test, using the compound that is now the Rival S. This was a prototype tire, but at least the compound is guaranteed to work in Lincoln. There aren't any public asphalt tests yet, that's coming at the end of the month.

I think the Bridgestone will still give them a run for their money, and my gut says the BFG will suffer a bit in hot weather especially compared to the 'stones. Unverified report from a tire engineer is that the Bridgestones in Dixie were suffering from graining, and that's with weather in the mid 70s. With warmer weather I predict the 'stones will do better and with sufficiently hot weather the BFG will probably start to get greasy.

That's all conjecture, nobody's tested these tires head to head yet. I think what's going to become clear is that if you're not on one of these two tires, you've got an uphill battle.

That's pretty much what I was afraid of. Similar to the Toyo R1R when it came out, fastest of tires when it came out, but it sure heat cycled out fast. You knew it was just a matter of time before a company made a tire that was really a <100 treadwear tire, stamped '200TW' on the side.

Oh well, they'll probably be on my car at nationals.

People will start testing them in the next couple weeks and we'll know for sure how they perform against the RE71Rs.

There will be some good data coming out 3/29. Lots of side by side testing.

So today was my third event on the RE71Rs. #1 in STX and #1st in overall Pax. Simply amazing tire.

Overcast florida day, car had two drivers(co driver was my teenager, not building a lot of heat from his runs)

Out of curiosity, what is the life expectancy of ZII SS on a daily driver with only 1 deg camber in front? I just got 215/17 SS and I would like to use them for daily (7-8 months of the year) and autox.

I wouldn't use SD results as a base point. The grip level is totally different from normal sites.

The Bridgestone does look very good and it feels very soft.

Mine are dailies. Im expecting 15k at the minimum, which for me is two years of driving.

I DDed a set of Z2s in 2013/14. Got 20k with about 6 months of autoX mixed in.

I think it's the most normal of the 200TW tires. (Meaning I wouldn't mind getting caught in the rain etc)
