radical rpc 3.2l v8 swap?

Hi,

I've been reading a lot of topics about possible swap's for the 86.

One of the things that pops up a lot is the weight issues.
Most engins that get swapped in are heavier than the original -> messing up the balance etc.

Thinking about that i remembered reading about the radical performance roc 3.2l v8. A extremely light weight engine with awesome performance.

Mounting it would most likely take a lot of costume work costing a ton of money. On top of the engine price it self of course.
But would it be worth it?

Best regard's
Paragon

i'm well aware of the fact that it would't be cheap.
But i can enjoy my money a whole lot more when it's in my car than when it's in my bank account.

Your money. You decide if it is "worth it". Seriously search. There is a jdm company that has a similar motor in their car. I'd rather have a Corvette, 99% or more of the performance, 0% of the headaches.

300hp. $50,000 motor. Fun idea. about as practical as asking scarlet johanson out on a date.

Edit; thinking of the two hyabusa motor...still going to be tits expensive.

NA it produces 500hp, for a engine weighing only 85kg. Remarkable if you ask me.

But gauging from the response i could better safe my money and look at other option's.
That might indeed be a smart idea yes.

It just sounded like a awesome idea, keeping the car extremely light with a lot of hp.

Extremely light and alot of hp are something that every car manufacturer wants to attain. As weight goes down, cost goes up expoentially. As hp goes up reliability goes down, as reliability goes back up cost goes up expoentially...

before you know it...

Forgetting the initial cost, you should also look at maintenance requirements... specifically how many hours between full rebuilds. Similar engines only claim to last ~30-40 hours between rebuilds. Fine for a full race car, useless for anything else.

I dunno, if a race engine lasts 30-40 hours of racing then its going to go at least 10-15K miles on the road as you can't put the same duty cycle on it as you could racaing round a circuit

especially with 500Bhp , you run out road pretty fast....

I think the whole weight "throw off the balance of the car" thing is massively overstated...

Well in that case, racing transmissions should last much longer on the street than in racing applications.

Along with racing suspension.

If you'd be happy to spend ~$30k on an engine that needs rebuilds every year (or more frequently), especially since a rebuild on an engine like this isn't going to be cheap, then go for it... but that's A LOT of money for a lot of headache on a street driven car.

I would bet each rebuild is about $10k all in.

With the amount I drive, I would need a rebuild every 9 months, no thanks.

The car already carries 53% of it's weight on the nose. Lightweight as it is adding another 100lbs. to the nose will have a significant impact on handling.

You'd have to talk to one of the suspension experts on how to remedy it, but without some tweaks to springs/shocks you'll notice the change. Straight line speed seekers won't care.
