I agree the BRZ owner just upset about his way got block by some strike people. strike means you stop working at your job to get attention, not blocking the road and protesting violently. what i see in this video is frustrated driver vs mobs blocking a road

But the TAs are students, right? So how can the clients of a company unionize?

Apparently they are striking because there salary is 15,000 and they want a increase. I dont really understand the problem you want a increase get a new job or a second.

But anyway I would have probably did the same thing the brz owner did and if that chick hit my car things would have gotten ugly too

Graduate students are employed by the university and receive a stipend for working for the university (teaching assistants; helping students understand concepts, conducting labs, grading assignments, creating tests etc.) while obtaining post-graduate education, Masters degrees and PhD's. Not to mention that the University reaps the rewards of the students novel research (many companies give lots of money to universities to have grad students perform research using the universities equipment) and contributions of turning out quality undergraduates that go on to do good things increasing the quality of the universities 'brand'.

As they are employees of a public/publicly funded institution they unionized at some point in the past. (1973 according to their history)

When your career path mandates working this job it's kind of hard to just 'get a new job'. Really difficult to get a PhD without doing, you know, post-graduate studies...

Toronto is a major city with major expenses, $1,250/month isn't exactly living easy.

It's a little more complicated than ButeraFRS has made it out to be. Yes they have the right assemble under the charter of rights. However, section 1 of the charter of rights allows the authorities to revoke their right to assemble, if it impedes on the rights of others.

So in simple terms, the public’s right to live their lives, trumps the rights of those who are demonstrating, and assemblies can be deemed unlawful for this reason. Protesters in Canada need to tread a fine line between exercising their right of peaceful assembly and breaching the rights of the public.

In Canada, you can't stand outside a soldier's repatriation ceremony with a sign that says "Thank god for dead soldiers", or sit outside abortion clinics and chant hateful things at women. because, even though you are exercising your right to free speech, those things breach the rights of others.
