Illegal for "Human" to Drive

I just don't see how this will ever happen within the next 25-50 years.

I'd loved to be around long enough to see the transition though. How will the government do away with the millions of cars?

I wouldn't mind seeing harsher driving tests to make sure only some humans can drive. Some just need to stay home altogether.

Not sure that a site called the Libertarian Republic is exactly a reliable source for determining if humans will stop driving cars! I highly doubt that anybody on this forum will still be alive when/if this ever happens anyway.
I remember a pile of articles (in these paper things called "magazines") back in the 70s that said the internal combustion engine would be gone completely by the year 2000 and as we know they are still going strong and better than ever.
As far as getting rid of the existing billions of cars goes that would be the easy part!

Imagine some crackheads think DWT is completely safe as long you complete the test. Can you imagine driving while texting around cones is part of driving test lol?

It will be a LONG time before this comes about, if it even does. If for no other reason than once the technology does come out, it will flow just like all the other automotive technology does. It'll start with the luxury cars and filter down to the super base model cars over the following 10-15 years. Even then though, they can't mandate that people buy a new car just because the latest technology is out. if you look around today, you see a ton of people driving 10-20 year old cars.

Elon Musk is great at coming up with grand ideas that may be possible now, but won't be feasible on a commercial scale for decades to come.

I'm with you there. I've always maintained that the US should follow Europe's lead for getting your license. In most of the EU countries it takes 2 years to be fully licensed and costs well over $1000. Plus driving school is mandatory and the only way to get certified... TBH my driving test was a joke, showed up at the DMV, drove around the block, paid $30, walked out with my license... Took all of ten minutes, and I dread knowing that there are other drivers on the road that probably did the same thing.

But yea, driverless cars have a long way to go to be viable, but the technology is always interesting. I really hope they don't rely on current gps like that article says, because we're going to be fishing cars out of lakes/deserts/cliffs left and right!

Our licensing process here is very long and convoluted with many different levels and requirements before you are fully licensed.

It don't do shit and our new drivers (and many old one) are just as crappy as anywhere else.

I stand corrected. Shitty drivers are a given fact of life the whole world over.

They'll outlaw human drivers precisely one week after they outlaw horse drawn carriages.
