It's course dependent. If you have a straight section, maybe it saves you a shift and helps. If you have a tight pin turn, it makes you fall deeper into the torque dip and hurts. If you drive it on the street, your speedo won't be accurate either, so there's that.

I was referring more to handling not power. My car sits in the garage and gets driven to events, the speedo being off doesn't concern me. I am curious if people think the taller pinched tire would flop around too much.

Depends on tire construction. If the sidewalls are not stiff enough, you will need to run quite high tire pressures to keep it from flopping. You might get to a point where the pressures are so high that you begin to loose overall grip.

I was pleased with the AD08R in that size, but their sidewalls were incredibly stiff!! None of the current 200tw tires come close, unfortunately.

Go faster in the slaloms - the car should dance. What I'm seeing is:
- turn left to pivot around cone
- straighten steering wheel, wait for next turn in point
- turn right to pivot around cone
- lather, rinse, repeate

You should be going so fast that by the time you're pivoting around one cone, it's time for you to turn the other direction for the next cone - steering wheel should never be straight and motionless.

Every time you oversteered you backed out of the throttle - that's killing your time. Either learn to save the car while keeping your foot in it, or don't feed in gas when it's going to create too much oversteer. Sir Jackie Stewart: "Never press the gas pedal all the way down until you know you never have to take it off."

Anybody have any recommendations for air pressures for the Michelin Primacy? I didn't get tires ordered in time for this weekend (too many choices, too much indecision)! My car is a 2015 BRZ, no mods. From what I can find, it looks like I should run first heat and spray the tires each run.

245/40 or 235/40 is the way to go. 225/45 is fine, but most of the top street tires come in one of the other better sizes so might as well get those.

Things didn't go too well for me, especially considering I took 2nd in class last event on the stock primacy's (which was only my second event with the car). I never found the right pressures to maximize grip and get proper rotation. I stayed 35f/34r which I think was quite a bit too high. I didn't have an air tank or compressor with me though so i didn't want to go too low (mistake). Next time I will be prepared with an air tank and try much lower pressures.

I can't say much about the Star Specs based on this one experience but I think they did get too hot on the 5th run in 80 degree weather. A sprayer will likely be in my future.

Whatever pressure gives the best even distribution of heat across the tire or whatever pressure keeps you from rolling over the sidewall.

I still think 235/45 is a viable option. At the Pro Solo last year at Crows Landing, there were two really fast 86s on 235/45.

I thought I was the only one on 235/45s. I didn't see anyone else at any big events or Nats on that size last year. I'm still convinced I'd run within 0.1-2 on any size 215-245.

2nd in class on stock tires... yeah, that's fucking horrible

(unless your class had 2 people)

I settled at 45/43, but I run higher pressures than most and I was more concerned about limiting sidewall rollover than anything else. Definitely spray every run - these tires are happiest in the 90-110 degree range.

I settled at much different pressures from renfield. I got respectable (for the primacy) results when I was finally down around 33f/30r. Give or take a pound or two for whatever the weather is doing.

I've never sprayed them, but then again, they never came out on hot days, either. You'll have fun, although your times might not reflect it.
