I have to disagree LS6 engines are the strongest engines ever made by GM, there is a good reason that they're called "bullet proof" the only improvement might be upgrading the valve springs (not sure why they put yellow German made valve springs on LS6s ), also earlier C6 cars didn't have the revised dry sump like the ones that come after 2010, oil starvation has been solved a while ago ..

race engines and specs is different obviously, I was referring to lapping day reliability... so I wouldn't surprise with the shorter lifespans, who knows the cam/head combo on those cars ..my friends and I have never had a single issue when tracking our LSx cars.

With a capable driver at the wheel, you need some kind of Cup car to legitimately challenge those cars. I just can't seem to get there though . . . Now, the upcoming GT 350, maybe a different story.

Funniest track video in my little world was my friend in a Lotus Exige Cup getting absolutely toasted by a C6 ZR1 on the straights at VIR, and then catching the Vette at every corner. 300+ hp and torque differential is NOT better than a competent driver in a well-balanced car. Leaving driving skills aside, the interesting thing is that the Exige is so good, even average drivers pick up lots of time. Getting it to 10/10ths though, takes a special person.
C7 Z06 has the upper hand with its superior handling and braking abilities, the only problem is the positive displacement SC that results in heat soak.. Motortrend and Randy Pobst already mentioned that when they tested it. In short, new C7 Z06 engine with FI sucks, I heard that they were planning to come up with a bigger cubic engine NA motor but emissions was the problem..

I agree with your lightweight car advantage comments, and that's the exact reason why I switched to a lighter car after driving all bigger power cars (vettes, etc)

However, ZR1 can still out handle many lightweight cars with its superior PSM and MagneRide technology (which is even improved on the newer C7 cars) unless it is a really tight track.. most likely, the guy behind the wheel couldn't push the ZR1 (very common for a Supercar )

I totally agree: that car is one sweet monster . . . until you cook the brakes . . . then its an ugly monster! And, yes, that particular ZR1 driver was not very skilled. I think the experience was a hoot, but it doesn't really prove anything about the cars themselves.

Now, as much fun as I'm having, I vote to stop taking up the OP's thread with war stories.

A lot of people run their tips outwards away from the sound booth, its hideous, but it works. I ran Laguna last month without issues on my setup, the shift transition from 3rd to 4th aligned with the booth.
