For the record, if I wanted a 2-seat, track-mostly car, I'd go for a Z06, Cayman, or Elise. I really compare the twins to 2+2s.

What made me sell my MR2 and buy my AE86, and subsequently my FR-S, was the ability to put wheels, jack, tools, grill, and cooler in the car, drive anywhere in comfort, track it, and drive home.
You have to balance where it will spend most of its time against its intention. For me that meant a comfortable car with room to carry things so that I can get to the track. |

Hey Kevin! Been a while,
Anyways, I'd go with your own gut instinct in which you have enjoyed more. You've had more seat time and skill in these things than the majority of the general forum. Although the FRS now has way more tiny little improvements and quality offerings from the aftermarket it is not a worlds of difference. The DI seals no longer blowing up after a tune seems to be the biggest difference and I know that is what kept you away for a while. Either way the s2000 motor is still more reliable imo. Put it this way, Ted, Julio, and I have started with 86 cup and were heavy into it. The 3 of us now have s2000s... I am currently helping another 86cup competitor find a s2000. Also keep in mind though that the frs is due for a refresh pretty soon and who knows what that is to bring.. Last edited by donutfilling; 03-18-2015 at 02:03 AM. |

While I love driving the S2000 with the top down in warm weather, I'd still pick the FRS/BRZ if I could only have one car, it's so much more practical and civilized IMHO

I had a 2004 S2000 for about 2 years (with OEM hardtop) and now I've owned my 2013 FR-S for a little over a year. IMO, one could definitely argue that the FR-S/BRZ is more "civilized" for DD. With that being said, I'm seriously considering going back to an S2000. I really miss that car and I hate ragtops so that's saying a lot. The hard part these days is finding a well kept, decent mileage S without the price being above 20K.

Hey! I bought the perrin cat back from you back in 2013? which is actually up FS now... because I actually just got myself an ap1. Going to keep my brz for a couple more months to put it to track duty a couple times before I let it go, but during the past month I've had the ap1 now, I must say that the car is much more engaging and fun. By all means, I'm no expert, but the brz just feels a little numb, at least straight out of the box. I know a few tweaks could make the difference, but stock for stock, the s2000 just feels much more fun. I'm sure you can attest to this given you've had both platforms as well.
Daily driveability, the only thing I miss is the foldable rear seats, but the depth of the trunk in the s2k makes up for that! |

With the rate of all the members dumping their twins for s2000's we may as well put a sticky on the first page of the forum telling everyone to just go buy an s2000 instead....
