Hey, let the rumor bugs rumor! I've seen multiple tellings of events I was at! Pretty fun!

Steve?

We met a few months ago, I was visiting from out of town and went to the Martin event. The RX8 driver and I are brothers.

At our event, the Focus ST got faster as he piled on more runs. Fastest was his last, the 5th. Long course too, 55 seconds. 70-75 degrees ambient. Maybe 10-15 minutes between each run. Don't know if sprayed between runs or anything.

This guy! I forgot you bought a twin.

Everyone but Jason seems to have experienced them getting better with heat. I know an STR s2000 put a bunch of runs on a set and they didn't fall off. It was also hotter in Florida, but I don't think that 10-15 degrees ambient would affect tire temps that much.

In other news, the world seems to have stopped given the price of the Rival-S that popped up on Tire Rack this morning...

The price doesn't seem too far off from the RE71R and Z2 Star Specs. I can't wait to hear feedback about the Rival S, though

Is the Rival S just a compound change?

The tread pattern looks slightly different from the Tire Rack stock photos?

The stock photo just used a standard Rival in a different size - there are three rib and four rib tread patterns depending on the width of the tire.

Based on price I hope it sucks, and I say that as a big fan of the original Rival. Not good for the sport IMO if the top two street tires end up the most expensive. Welcome to tire wars!

Got it. I'll let everyone else be guinea pigs for me. I have to use up my AD08Rs and RS3s first before I can shell out for new tires. No National events in my area this year, so I'll be a spectator and pick something "proven" in July if my RS3s don't work.

For 3 dollars more a tire over the Bridgestone, I'll gladly buy the Rival-S for the best contingency available.

At 245/40/17, here's a quick cheat sheet
Dunlop ZII Star Spec (177 ea + $50 VISA rebate if you buy 4)
Hankook RS3 V2 $155 ea galactic back order
Bridgestone RE-71R $187 ea
New Rival-S $190 ea
Old Rivals $168, on closeout for $132 ea I will always laugh at all the people NOT running at nationals, or even a national level that will still somehow NOT buy this tire at these crazy low prices.

I have fresh old compound rivals from next year, and ZII's that I've been driving on all winter (not in snow) that I need to use up while you guys tell me what I'm buying for nationals. I'm hoping the old school BFG's are fast enough to put me in position to win some new Rival-S's to try.

Therein lies the rub. If the stones are faster than the S, how much contingency will you win?

Fresh old school Rivals should be fast enough on any surface not located at Lincoln Airport - definitely competitive against the star spec and the RS3 as long as you understand the tire (wants plenty of pressure, wants lots of slip angle and thrashing to be fast). Totally agree that people not trying to be at the pointy end of things should jump on this.

So the tire landscape appears to be as clear as mud.

I read on the other forum people feel at Dixie this weekend the Bridgestone is the best tire, at least for the surface there. People actually drove to TR after doing the practice course to go get some.

The Rival-S is obviously not out yet.

Sean the RS3v2 in 245/40/17 is in stock at TR, has been since last week, took me two days to get mine.

Second event on my RE71r's and all I can say is WOW. The car is setup absolutely perfect. I took 4th in over all PAX even with this years big STX hit. Mods include 255/40R17 stones and ohlins road and track coilovers. I need more power out of this thing and it's game over.

Let's just say the Bridgstones are pretty good. #1 and #5 in STX at the SCCA Dixie National tour. I finished #5(my first national tour trophy). They really let you push past your limits and just held on! With multiple national champs and tour winners in the class I can't complain!

#80 STX David
#180 Randell (bad ass winner)

What pressures did you land on with this setup?
